(Redirected from Draft talk:Ron Schnell)

Ping Ron, for the TC and MSFT, better to use our infoweek sources, rather than the DOJ. You were effectively an employee of the NY and federal groups, so the dotGov stuff is not fully independent in the WP:RS sense. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 14:00, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The 1994 book by RMS isn't WP:PRIMARY, but it also doesn't list you by name, that I could find. I think you are in the acknowledgements of the 1996 edition, though. But the biography-page is not supposed to be a resume, it is supposed to be a "formal assessment of your contribution to the history of humanity" as evidenced by reflecting what the sources actually say about you. Also, we have an article on Dunnet, so giving a lot of details about it here is needless duplication. Dunnet is WP:N and has in-depth coverage, but coverage of the topic of Ron Schnell in the Dunnet sources is mere mention, that you were the author. Anyways, the overall weight of the Dunnet-sentence needs to be kept relatively short, but not necessarily as short as my first-pass-rough draft. The more important thing, though, it to keep the article Ron Schnell properly reflecting what the WP:SOURCES actually say. They have little to say about Ron Schnell in relation to Dunnet, so in this BLP article, we should wikilink to Dunnet (video game), but not much more. By contrast, we can give some details about the BLP's sports career, since we have half-a-dozen sentences specifically about that, from a couple paragraphs motherJones wrote up, in their overall article about the 2013 championship-match teams.

One last hint, always give the datespans (and organize sentences chronologically when that makes sense), as if this was a history-textbook, since of course, in a way that is just what this is. Don't say "was" when you can give specific years. But per the hints above about WP:NOTRESUME, the date+corp+jobtitle style, is best avoided. More later. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 14:00, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

refs with errors[edit]

Corrected a few ref-bugs, wrong param-name mostly, but left these.

I left these errors in there, because so far as I know, there is no Template:cite_web option that permits one to specify NULL as the value. I do not know the archive-date, in this case, but I do very much know that the URL is an archive-URL, and not the original URL, because there *was* no original URL. The magazine was published hardcopy in 1982. These URLs are scans, made by a fansite that is legitimately uploading scans, after getting permission from the original copyright-holders.

Now, that is a bit of an odd situation in and of itself, so I'd like to have some other (more intricacies-of-copyright-savvy) wikipedian look over the ref in question, and decide whether we should be linking to the allegedly-DMCA-compliant WP:CONVENIENCE link at all, or if instead we should just not offer a URL.

Also, if the ref does pass copyright-muster, maybe somebody with more wiki-template-savvy than me, will come along and show us how to properly format the cite-web-or-equivalent, so as to specify an archive-URL of a document that was original hardcopy-only. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 23:07, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The UPI article that is quoted in the refs can be found online at http://www.upi.com/Archives/1981/11/01/14-year-old-is-computer-whiz/3943373438800/ . I (and my Wiki-friend 75108) suggest changing:

Edit Request[edit]

Can someone please change the Rand Paul headline to past tense? I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Ron Schnell 18:52, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Another WP:RS source[edit]

Not sure if there's a place for it in the article or not, but wanted to mention this article that just came out, in a source that is WP:RS. I don't think it's particularly important to add, but figured this would be a good spot to note its existence. http://adexchanger.com/politics/what-becomes-of-a-campaigns-data-assets-when-a-presidential-run-is-suspended/ Ron Schnell 21:49, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request 12/28/16[edit]

I'm not sure where template transclusions are appropriate, but it's hard for me to imagine why it would be appropriate here. Due to WP:COI I request that someone take a look at this and, if appropriate, remove the Rand Paul template that was added today. Ron Schnell 02:38, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 DoneHiAviators99, I've removed this for you. st170etalk 02:47, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No response to a consensus request, so officially requesting edit.

Due to WP:COI, I request consensus for some edits:

Not done The cited article does not provide enough information to use as a reliable source. No others could be found. Duke Gilmore (talk) 02:59, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to make more specific wording suggestions, but I prefer that this is done by proper editors. Ron Schnell 19:51, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Cited articles do not provide needed information.

Also adding a prior edit request for consensus along with these: Suggest adding one or both of these links to the footnotes the the penultimate paragraph of the "Life and Work" section, as I recently published a scholarly article about the Microsoft-related work, and there was a video interview/podcast relating to it as well.

I will not edit the page, due to WP:COI. I'm willing to accept if people think these links are not notable. Ron Schnell 19:56, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moved to bottom of page. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 21:40, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ron Schnell Partially done. See notes above. Cheers. Duke Gilmore (talk) 02:59, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Opening sentence[edit]

Aviators99, I do not understand your edit summary. What COI? Also, this is not how we write opening sentences of biographies. See MOS:BIRTHNAME. His WP:COMMONNAME is his birth name, using a hypocorism. I do not wish to edit war with you, so please revert yourself. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:05, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I checked your user page. You are Ron Schnell. This is still not the way to lead a biographical Wikipedia article. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:06, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
According to your cited MOS:BIRTHNAME, "For people who are best known by a pseudonym, the legal name should usually appear first in the article, followed closely by the pseudonym. Follow this practice even if the article itself is titled with the pseudonym:". I'm fine with changing the order of things, and will edit now.Ron Schnell 22:16, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm fine with your change. But hey, User:David Eppstein and User:Muboshgu, if you are really interested in keeping this page up to date, please have a look at the edit requests. Ron Schnell 00:14, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
