Description

US states by number of major sports teams. Please see List of American and Canadian cities by number of major professional sports franchises for the definition of "major".

This map depicts the number of teams with home stadiums in the state. For example, along with the Nets and Devils, New Jersey hosts the home games of the Giants and Jets in the New Meadowlands Stadium. Despite this, New York still hosts the Buffalo Bills so it has all four major sports. Maryland hosts the Orioles and Ravens in Baltimore, as well as the Redskins at FedEx Field. The Kansas City Royals and Chiefs both play in Missouri at Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium, respectively.

Arizona Coyotes moved assets to Utah and since folded. Utah now has a NHL franchise based in Salt Lake City. Oakland Athletics is expected to relocate to Las Vegas when the new stadium is finished.
