Summary

Description
English: At the time of its formation in 1970, GBI did not yet have an illustrated logo. On the advice of Rev. Julius Ishak, a competition was held with prizes regarding the creation of the GBI logo.

Then through the work of Rev. Samuel Sutomo, who is artistic and multi-talented, the GBI logo appeared, which was inspired by the PGI Oikumene logo at that time. The PGI and GBI logos are still similar, especially on the letter E.

In 1988, Rev. Benny Gerungan, M.A., General Secretary of BPH GBI 1994-2000, proposed that the letters D and N in Indonesian words, which were originally lowercase, be changed to capital letters. At first Pdt Samuel Sutomo did not agree with the proposal because according to him the logo was not bound by standard language. For example, the word Oikumene, which became the PGI logo, consisted of capital letters except for the letters M and N. However, in the end, Rev. Samuel agreed to this change and it was ratified at the 2004 Synod.

For color, previously the GBI logo always used plain blue with the aim of indicating the authenticity of the letterhead among the black writing around it.

Along with the times and technology, the GBI logo has been modernized by developing colors and meanings. This development began in the era of Pdt. Soehandoko Wirhaspati, M.A. (2000-2004), followed by digitalization during the leadership era of Pdt. Dr. Jacob Nahuway, M.A. (2004-2014), and was increasingly used in internet communication and social media during the leadership of Pdt. Dr. Japarlin Marbun (2014-2019).

Soehandoko Wirhaspati, M.A. (2000-2004), dilanjutkan dengan digitalisasi pada era kepemimpinan Pdt. Dr. Jacob Nahuway, M.A. Dr. Japarlin Marbun (2014-2019).
