I love the idea. Wikipedia should be thorough and reflect the body of information that is out there. I believe we might need an article for Climate of the Moon, if we want to be thorough. I believe our mission should be as thorough as possible, with as much organization as possible, identifying a logical structure to all of the information presented. @Destroyeraa: I think it's worth including some of the space stuff in the article, as it has a big impact on our weather and the way we forecast it. For example, Katrina was partially attributed to variations in fluxes of galacticcosmic rays. However, my biggest question with the whole project is how far we should go with things where the weather played an important role and potentially changed history like World War 2 (D-Day or the German invasion of Russia) or the Miami Building Collapse.Jason Rees (talk) 20:10, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't really up for a vote. WikiProject Weather was set up to cover all areas of weather in general, and it was already decided that we would have a Space Weather Task Force to address the topic of space weather itself. Also, no, space weather is definitely stillweather. The only difference is that it happens in space, rather than on Earth. Why should we exclude space weather from this project? There isn't any good reason for doing so. This is WikiProject Weather, NOT WikiProject Earth Weather. And space weather also constitutes a separate branch of meteorology, so it definitely warrants inclusion in this project. Given the significance and scope of space weather, the only other alternative would be to set up a separate WikiProject for space weather, but that would just result in a mostly-inactive project (like WPNTS) with numerous overlaps with both WikiProject Weather and WikiProject Astronomy, so this option is better. For the record, I support the creation of the Space Weather Task Force and its proposed organizational structure, as is. This branch of meteorology definitely needs to be covered in a general weather project, and I think that the organizational structure proposed below is an excellent one. Using this stub, and any others, to create the article, will help add to Wikipedia's documentation of another form of natural disaster. Most heat waves will cause some deaths and drought, and not every one needs to have an article, but they should be documented. Most countries have a strict definition of "heat wave", so it's not like the article would mention any just warm period. Eventually, we should have heat waves for other years. I think we need to tread very carefully around these heatwave articles (PS Heatwave not heat waves etc), as it maybe better to have an overall article talking about the Weather in Summer 2021 in the US especially with today's news that it is the hottest summer on record in the US.Jason Rees (talk) 20:53, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've been going through unused WikiProject categories, mostly from inactive and defunct WikiProjects, and came across a few categories that are tagged as being part of a "Space weather task force" that is part of this project but I can't find any more information about this "task force". I'm not sure what "space weather" is or how it is a part of what this WikiProject monitors so I thought I'd see if anyone here could provide information on whether this was actually an existing task force that did things or an invention from years ago that is long dead. @Liz: This wikiproject is trying to improve the quality and coverage of weather on Wikipedia, which has involved the creation of various taskforces including one to deal with Space Weather. 1.1 Climate will be covered at the planet level for Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto (Earth is Climate).
1.2 Climate will be covered at the continent level for North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica.
1.3 Climate will be covered at the country level for every country.
1.4 Climate will be covered at the state, territory, or province-level as long as it is of sufficient land size (RS coverage required).
1.5 Climate will be covered at the city level as long as they have a certain population and cover a sufficient land area (RS coverage required).
1.6 Climate will be covered for large natural features such as mountains and forests.
1.7 Climate may be covered for cities or villages that have a unique climate (ex: high up in the mountains) as long as there is sufficient coverage.
2.0 Floods
2.1 Floods will be covered in yearly articles.
2.2 Floods will be covered at the country level for all countries (lists).
2.3 Floods will be covered at the state, territory, or province-level for regions with many occurrences (lists)
2.4 All notable floods will receive their own article given they have sufficient coverage
2.5 Floods are deemed notable if they cause millions of dollars (USD) in damage or kill people.
2.6 Floods may also be deemed notable with the lack of a damage figure or death toll if there is sufficient coverage to suggest that 2.5 has been met.
2.7 Floods that cause minimal damage or no deaths are non-notable events.

Personally, I would recommend about 40,000 sq mi for 1.4, although I am unsure for 1.5... I think we definitely need to make articles for all mega cities, but I don't know what we should do beyond this. I would like suggestions for these specific guidelines. Keep in mind this is not a discussion to determine whether the above guidelines will be used, so please do not comment on that.
