The accent.

[edit]

He never used it. What's more his name was pronounced ROO-bn. Yours, GeorgeLouis (talk) 01:07, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see that some of the sources cited in the article do use the accent, but most do not. It appears that he himself did not use an accent.[1] So I am moving the title back to Ruben Salazar and protecting it. --MelanieN (talk) 16:32, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. He was a great guy. I knew him slightly. GeorgeLouis (talk) 05:19, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ruben Salazar and his relationship with LAPD

[edit]

I feel that there should be a section that emphasizes the relationship he had to the LAPD because it would show the readers why his family and the chicano community at large would consider his death a murder.

By doing this we would need to write specifically about his "controversial" articles and columns over the LADP and the sheriff department. This followed a heavy surveillance and harassment to Salazar even after he leaves the LA times and works in radio. As well as specifically talking about his relationship with LADP Chief Edward M. Davis. Davis stated he wanted to "tear the hide" off of Salazar's back for reporting on a meeting that Davis had with Latino reporters. This article showed Davis and the LAPD in an unfavorable light by highlighting the racist comments and ideas that Davis had on the Latinx community. Davis also wanted to open an intelligence file on Salazar due to his article.

This should include the press release that the LAPD gave stating that Salazar's article had been a personal attack on the department.

    [edit]

APBS documentary, "Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle", aired today by KQED TV in San Francisco, describes Los Angeles Police Department officers having been told falsely by a "man in a red vest" that someone with a gun had gone into the Silver Dollar bar, and a policeman then having deliberately fired a teargas shell through a curtain into the bar, killing Salazar. This account differs from the nonspecific account given in the article, about Salazar having been killed by a teargas shell in the course of the street protest.
