"　この報告は、勝盛典子氏(神戸市立博物館学芸員)の論文「大浪から国芳へ――美術にみる蘭書受容のかたち」(神戸市立博物館研究紀要　第十六号)をうけて書かれたものである。勝盛氏が調査されたニューホフ著『東西海陸紀行』の挿絵を再調査したところ、浮世絵師・国芳は同本から、十四作品十五個所の自作に図様を転用していることが判明した。本稿ではこれらの調査結果を図版と対比させながら一括して報告する。調査を終えてわかったことは、国芳が同本挿絵から利用する時、その部分については克明に写し取っているということである。そして同時に、自己の作品全体の中に転換・消化して、作品をオリジナルなものに高めている。その手腕は非凡の為、原拠挿絵と国芳作品を併置して見た時、両図の関係は明らかであるにもかかわらず、これらを切り離して見た時、両図の関係は気づかれにくいものとなっている。この点から考えても、国芳のアレンジの優秀さが知られる。\n　このように、国芳が直接舶来の銅版挿絵から自己作品に多数転用していることがわかった以上、勝盛氏も既に述べておられるが、今後は他の洋古書の調査が行われるべきであろう。",
