Dr. Clive Johnson reprises his Rochester-Chatham presentation talk on "Dickens and Satire". Clive thoroughly entertains with his many stories and extracts, highlighted by an ongoing colorful and often hilarious slide show. 5 pm BMT, 12 pm EST, 9 am PST. As part of Broadstairs' 2024 Dickens Festival, The Dickens Declaimers present 'Betsey Trotwood with David, Mr Dick and the donkeys!' at the Dickens House Museum, which is in the former home of the lady on whom Dickens based the character of Betsey Trotwood.

In the years since Dickens' death, biographies have said much the same thing. A new book, "The Life and Lies of Charles Dickens", by Oxford scholar Helena Kelly, in some aspects paints a refreshingly different picture of the man and his life. We shall compare the traditional knowledge with Kelly's book.
