Margaret Thatcher died today after a stroke
President Barack Obama and former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev joined leaders from across the globe to pay their respects to the late leader.
Despite the prominence of Thatcher as one of the Britain's most noted leaders and the Falkland Islanders voicing their deep sadness at the death, Argentina's Ms Kirchner remained silent as the tributes poured in.
President Obama said: "The world has lost one of the great champions of freedom and liberty, and America has lost a true friend."
He said: "She stands as an example to our daughters that there is no glass ceiling that can't be shattered."
In Jerusalem the prime minister of Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu, said he was in mourning and described her as "a truly a great leader, a woman of principle, of determination, of conviction, of strength; a woman of greatness".
Even Argentina's news sources gave the Baroness the expected prominence with the Buenos Aires Herald leading with the story: "Britain's Iron lady Margaret Thatcher dies'
While Las Nacion opted for the headline: "Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady who defeated Argentina in the Falklands"
Meanwhile some refused to let bygones be bygones.
Argentinian journalist Victor Hugo Morales told Radio Continental: "She killed hundreds of innocents. So we will not allow a tear for this woman.
"The damage projected over the last 30 years of humanity cannot be measured in words.
"For Argentines, it was Thatcher who murdered hundreds of Argentines."
On one website, the headline simply read: "The woman who beat Argentina".
Margaret Thatcher today died after suffering a stroke. Both the Prime Minister and the Queen expressed their deep sadness at the loss.
