Paul Donnellon, VooDooDog (2007)
 

Paul Donnellon of the London-based animation studio VooDooDog created this beautiful hand-painted title sequence for Love in the Time of Cholera.

Paul Donnellon: “The film is set in the early 1900s in Colombia, South America, therefore I felt the sequence should not feel too digital so we created the hand-painted oil painting feel in  the rendering. The idea was to give the audience a feeling of the colors and atmosphere of South America. The animation was a bit painstaking to produce as each frame of the beautifully rendered flowers had to move in a different way, rather than some mechanical animation.”
“We put a lot of effort into the line test stage, studying time-lapse flowers footage and getting the twisting feeling of the tendrils and flowers opening before commiting to the hand painting stage. I am sure no one other than fussy designers notice, but we think it was worth the effort rather than just making a straight computerised sequence.”
“We had thought of creating some depth of field effects onto the final layers, but when we tried this it took away from the feeling that this was a flat canvas being painted on, so we scaled back.”
“The final piece runs for just thirty seconds and seems simple, but a lot of care went into making it. For the end piece we created still images from our paintings, so this book ends the movie.”

Pablo DonnellondeVooDooDog, Reino Unido, ha creado una hermosa secuencia de títulos pintados a mano con una sensación de El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera. Estas son las principales secuencia de títulos de crédito finales. Donnellon explica sus razones de por que eligio las pinturas a mano.
“La película está ambientada a  los años 1900 en Colombia, América del Sur, por lo tanto decidí que la secuencia no debía sentirse demasiado digital y presentaría una pintura al óleo pintada a mano. La idea era dar al público una sensación de los colores y la atmósfera de América del Sur. La produción de  animación fue muy cuidadosa, en lugar de una animación mecánica tuvo que mudarse cada bello cuadro de una manera diferente.
“Hemos puesto mucho esfuerzo en la etapa de prueba, estudiando el lapso de tiempo de la toma de las flores para conseguir la sensación de giro de los zarcillos y la apertura de las flores – comprometerse en la etapa de pintura a mano” Estoy seguro de que nadie lo verá, más que los diseñadores quisquillosos,  pero pensamos que valió la pena el esfuerzo en lugar de sólo hacer una secuencia computarizada “
“Habíamos pensado crear algunas capas de profundidad en algunos campos finales para dar efectos de profundidad, pero cuando tratamos esto dio la  sensación de que se trataba de una pintura en lienzo plano así que hemos reducido. “
“La última pieza tiene una duración de sólo treinta segundos y parece sencillo, pero hubo mucho cuidado para la creación de este. Para la pieza final creamos imágenes fijas de nuestros cuadros,  este libro termina la película.”
