Day Against DRM Web Site (Saturday, October 12th)

The International Day Against DRM is an opportunity to unite a wide range of projects, public interest organizations, web sites and individuals in an effort to raise public awareness to the danger of technology that requires users to give-up control of their computers or that restricts access to digital data and media. This year we will be focusing specifically on a student's right to learn, and will be urging publishers to free students and educators from the unnecessary and cumbersome restrictions that make that process far more difficult.

Interested in planning an event? Please join the DRM Elimination crew discussion list. If you're looking for help with the organizing process, don't hesitate to send an email asking if there are others in your area -- the list has people all over the world. Once you've decided to host an event, please add it to this page, along with any necessary contact information. It's good to add it as soon as you have a date and contact info, even if you're still working out the details. Make sure to include the what, where, and when, along with your contact info for potential attendees. If you host one, please send photos to info@defectivebydesign.org.

Pre-IDAD Preparation

Sign-making party in Boston at the FSF office

Get crafty with us in preparation for this year's IDAD! We will provide refreshments, art materials, and instructions to make your own protest signs, so all you have to do is join in the fun!

IDAD 2019

Afternoon protest of textbook DRM outside of Pearson Education building

Please meet us at the FSF office at noon to help transport all of the signs, suits, and other surprises we'll be bringing to the Pearson building on 501 Boylston St.

The FSF office is steps away from the Downtown Crossing stop, while the Pearson building is only a short walk from the Back Bay stop on the Orange Line. We'll have refreshments and a few special gifts for those attending.

Evening hackathon on free culture textbooks

To balance our protesting activities and to offer an alternative, we'll be having a collaboration session in the FSF offices on free culture textbooks like those published by FLOSSManuals and Wikibooks. Vegan dinner will be provided.

Everyone outside of the Boston area who would like to participate are highly encouraged to join the #dbd channel on the Freenode IRC network. It's accessible through any IRC client, or on the Web at <https://webchat.freenode.net>.

Note: If possible, please RSVP to campaigns@fsf.org to confirm your attendance at the evening event, or follow the instructions on the door to be buzzed up to the fifth floor.
