Trump wants to re-write history and only teach things he agrees with. He has already deleted plenty of inconvenient truths from the Department of Defense website and purged photos that show historical events he doesn't agree with. Returning education to the states is his attempt to let states warp their curriculum to whatever version of history is in favor this year.
Moon landing? Didn't happen.
Holocaust? Made up to justify WWII.
Evolution? False because apes can't talk.
Bible study? Mandatory.

Exactly.
It's easier to read if you use the diamond shaped political compass where on the furthest end of left and right you have "communist" and "fascist" and on the top and bottom you have "Democracy" and "Anarchy"
Most US political parties are in the upper-right section. The GOP is presently overlapping with fascist pretty easily, and the only thing that is stopping them is the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court decides to be loyal to Trump instead of the Constitution, then the Constitution has been torn up and is now meaningless. Checks and Balances are what the US is founded on, and they likely never envisioned a moment in time where something like a fascist party or a communist party would ever be a thing. The Democratic Party is still rather conservative when it comes to progressive things, because they just are funded by different billionaires who have their own business interests. There is NO party out there that is not bought by corporate interests.
Outside the US, like in Canada, UK and Australia, our systems are very much "like" the US, There's a supreme court, there's a house and a senate, but there is no president. The Prime Minister is equal to the house majority leader. The Senate Leader means nothing. There of course other procedural differences (eg Australia and Canada's individual state/provinces had bicameral houses, but most have ditched the state-level senate, thus the "house leader" is now the de-facto "governor" of the state.) The UK has the house of lords which is basically an ancient version (eg 1000 years old) of the Senate where you have to be of the nobility class (eg a land owner) to be part of. Canada's Senate is basically a toothless do-nothing position where the prime minister can just appoint people to. So in a way the Senate acts as as a check on the next government's overreach, but in most cases the Senate is just a nepotism retirement golden parachute for the then prime minister's "friends"
So in a sense, the Senate in the US and Canada are equally useless, but for different reasons. Because the President, House and Senate are all elected positions in the US, ultimately the voter can oust them. In Canada you can only vote for the members of the House. The "leader" and the senate are unelected, but the power of the senate is pretty weak in Canada.
Which leads me back to the question. "Right Wing" conservative views, strictly align with a single state religion. The US has none, and can not have one (The separation of church and state are fundamental to the constitution.) So there will never be a time in US history where the US will be able to impose a state religion, no matter how hard they want to. Hence, throwing Jewish or Palestinian people under the bus can be done under an anti-immigration process. Depending on how well someone passes as being "White" is what ensures you don't get thrown under that bus. As much as Jewish and Palestinian people will not admit it. They are the same people. At a genetic level. "Left Wing" conservatives meanwhile adhere to the teachings of the religious scripture. So giving away wealth to the poor, helping the sick, feeding the homeless, that is all "left wing" ideology, but that is also what a "god fearing religious practitioner" would be doing.
Further left, as in "Liberal" Left, don't need the fear of a god to be a good person. Which is why healthcare and housing are always at the top of the priority list, and a strong believe that the "wealthy" are not paying enough taxes because the the corporations subsidize their losses on to the tax payer (See Walmart and McDonalds paying their employees at levels that still allow them to qualify for food stamps.) But when you start going even further left, you get into the "eco terrorist" type of left-wing before you land on communist. True communism, means there is no wealthy/nobility class. All wealth goes to the state, and the state knows best. This is why communist nations ultimately crumble, because it consolidates all the corruption at the state level, where as on the fascist right-wing end crumble for the same reason (all the corruption is at the state level), because they kick out all the diversity of thoughts. "If you don't agree, you become the dog's food."
Which comes down to the Democratic to Anarchy vertical axis. Political parties that are closer to the top are more "democratic", where the people run things, not corporations. This is why American political parties seem to be on a flat line between Democratic and Anarchy. Corporations control American political parties in the US. Outside the US, the corporation's ability to manipulate the public is curtailed by limits on political spending and donation limits. Canadian, Australian and European political parties tend to cluster above American political parties. Except "Libertarian" parties and parties who seek to replace income tax with tariffs. These parties are much closer to the lawless anarchy you see in a Mad Max film.
You know what a Libertarian utopia is? One where wealth dictates everything, on the myth that you can buy yourself out of any trouble. The problem with that is that people would only ever work for the company that promises them the most protection. So all the creative industries would vanish. There would be no more internet. You'd just be employee #42069 of McDonalds Empire for life. Step out of line, and a quick death would be preferable to not having even the worst job. Because there would be literately no reason to live. The government and police do not exist. If you don't have protection from the elements or from other people, you'll last at most a few days. That is literately hell, and objectively the Libertarian Utopia is one where eugenics is decided at the corporate hiring level. If your company needs physically strong people, it will only hire those who are strong. If it needs engineers, it will only hire those employees children who have aced their employee daycare aptitude tests. It all gets really silly and stupid when you try to create a society 100% ruled by money without any government. What you have is instead corporate kingdoms.

I don't think "communist"/"fascist" and "democracy"/"anarchy" are exactly opposites. I prefer The Political Compass [politicalcompass.org] axes - the horizontal axis is economics (where the left end is full communism and the right end is full laissez-faire) and the vertical axis is social (bottom end is full libertarian and top end is full authoritarian).
