The actions of this government are so obviously stupid that I wonder whether this is an orchestrated fail to get Boris Johnson back in. Many conservatives see Boris as the only chance of winning the next election, and the way that the PM is selected by Conservative party members (mainly elderly rich and white) means that he would probably be reselected - many said that they wanted to vote for Boris last time even though he wasn't running.
Unless the current government really is stupid enough to think that tax cutting for the rich without any means of paying for it as the country goes into recession, and decided to bar the office of budget responsibility to predict the effect, this could be a deliberate fail. Of course another motive could be to short government bonds and grab the money, and that did go on but I suspect that there is more than just the usual kleptocracy here.

I wonder how complex the UK tax code is, compared to the US tax code.
From what I've seen of the paper forms for a simple declaration of one salary, some charitable donations and expenses it's pretty similar for federal taxes. As she was not living in the USA my wife did not have any state taxes. I admit that many people have much more complex tax affairs so the comparrison may only hold for straightforward cases.

Creating software that is able to guide "regular" users through a complex tax system is hard.
The UK manages it. Most fields have help like "This is the figure in box 3 on your P60", the P60 is the end of tax year form that employers must give all employees.

My wife used to just fill in paper forms to the best of her ability. Since she never had to pay any tax it didn't really matter if everything was not quite right, you can't get in trouble for a mistake and cant even get penalty interest if it makes no difference to what you pay.

Working like mad in your early career makes sense if you're getting compensated extra for doing so.
Unfortunately a lot of companies just make promises - work hard now and you'll be in a top position in the future with more pay and more free time. Needless to say it doesn't often happen.

I used to be in pretty bad shape but went from a BMI of 35 to 23. I walk 10,000 steps a day, up to 20,000-30,000 if I take a day hike on a weekend. But I can't run! after a few dozen yards my ankle and knee joints hurt.

There are a few things that can be grown organically without significant loss of yields, Brazil nuts and some mushrooms are the only ones I can think of. For the rest there is a yield loss. While some people will pay a premium that offsets this, it cannot currently replace the staple foods for the whole population.
