We also tend not to put people exhibiting these behaviors in decision-making positions.
Except when we put one of them in charge of our country... Twice....

Attached to: A Coder Considers the Waning Days of the Craft
Running code spit out by an AI without fully understanding it is like following your GPS and driving into a lake.
AI can be a great tool but you still have to know what you are doing.
Even if AI gets to the point it can code as good or better than most humans, you still need to be able to understand it, not trust it blindly. We don't even trust each other to write code. That's why we have code reviews. The craft isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Attached to: Data Privacy Labels for Most Top Apps in Google Play Store are False or Misleading, Mozilla Study Finds
I have some free apps on Google Play that use Google's Ad Mob api for advertisements.
So, when filling out that form, there's no way to tell the users that "I, myself" don't collect any information but it is Google that does via the Ad Mob api.
One of the apps has a "disable ads for a $1" button, in which case not even Ad Mob would be collecting anything.
I could care less about any of the user information. I just wanted to create something fun and maybe collect a little extra cash.
Looking at my store listings though it just says, "this app may collect these data types" and "this app may share these data types with third parties". I actually do no such thing but we know Google does but Google lets my Apps take the fall for them.

My apps have gone over 2 years without an update because they don't need updated. The only crash reports I get anymore come from Google's ad library which I can't do anything about except try to upgrade them once in a while.

It's great for the most part. However, I still have to fall back to google for some of the more obscure development related searches.

Attached to: Hacker Group Behind Colonial Pipeline Attack Claims It Has Three New Victims
Do not hire Smallwood to do a security audit of your company.
That article doesn't say what Colonial did to improve their infrastructure after the audit. It just says Smallwood doesn't consider confidentiality important.
Colonial gets hacked, Smallwood pipes up, "oh yeah, we audited them three years ago and their security sucked."
It doesn't say, 1, what was fixed since the audit? 2, what attack vector was used to compromise the infrastructure? 3, was that attack vector identified by the audit three years ago? 4, was the attack vector missed by the audit by Smallwood? 5, was the attack vector something introduced since the audit?
We are currently looking for an external auditor for my company. If after the audit we perform the steps necessary to correct any deficiencies and get hacked down the road anyway, I'd see a lawsuit if the auditor were to breach our confidentiality in this way.
