Attached to: Richard Stallman Was Asked: Is Software Piracy Wrong?
Piracy used to specifically be SELLING unauthorized copies of media.
Not too long ago, you used to be legally allowed to share and make copies of your media for friends and family, so long as you weren't SELLING them copies of it.
Piracy was strictly limited to people who were making MONEY off the backs of other peoples work. Making money of the backs of other peoples work IS wrong. Making a copy for a friend, or sharing a copy to others is not. No money is exchanging hands, no payment of any kind is being made, it should NOT be piracy.

This is super sad, yet another great in the early computing industry is gone.
We're going to be losing more and more of these people as time goes buy and our industry gets older.

If you know computers and operating systems well, you'll know that all the major operating systems, whether it be MacOS, Windows, or Linux are all very stable and reliable. The problems arrive when people install kernel modules, extensions, or drivers that have bugs in them, OR when hardware defects are present.
This isn't surprising news to anyone who's worked in the industry at all.
The only time I've had Windows, Linux or MacOS crash in recent history was when there were hardware issues, OR when there were faulty kernel level drivers, extensions, modules, etc. This is why Apple so agressively disallows you installing kernel extensions into MacOS.

Ummm, yeah it did. A bunch of stocks plummeted on that day, some near or at double digits. there's a lot of fucking cherry picking being done to make crypto look like it was worse than the market as a whole. Bitcoin was down like 7%, but then again so was Shopify.
They literally took the worst example of crypto and was like "The sky is falling!" but didn't do the same thing for the rest of the whole stock market, which was also down dramatically on that day.
This is FUD.
The only propaganda being spread here is the one by Anonymous Coward.

The whole market dropped by double digits yesterday. Why single out crypto?
The crypto FUD is almost as pervasive as crypto scams.

That's a very ignorant argument to make, because it completely ignores the fact that the individuals in a corporation all have their individual rights already, so why should they get extra rights because they formed a corporation?
That would mean that the only thing stopping someone from having the rights of 20 people, is The money to establish and run 20 separate corporations in their name, which is exactly what's happening!
Do you see how ignorant and asinine that argument is?

Yes, in fact a labor union was one of the lobbying groups that sued to be able to do campaign contributions.
All corporations are legal persons under the law in the US. Except, they can't go to jail when they do illegal shit, and they have resources that far outweigh what any individual person would have, thus making them impossible to compete against for individual people.

You would have more credibility if you actually understood what happened with Citizens United.
Ditto. The whole premise of Citizens United v. FEC is that corporations are people who are engaged in speech.
Corporations are NOT people, and CAN NOT engage in speech.
People pushing for corporations do be seen as people who have speech, simply want to have more than one voice, as the rest of us do.
Next they'll be lobbying that corporations should be able to vote in elections.
It's an insane argument to make.

Gross profits, not net You can have profits of 99 trillion dollars a year and still be losing money if you're spending 100 trillion dollars a year.

Sorry, this was always the final destination for Capitalism. To say "this isn't capitalism" like it somehow excuses the results of capitalism lacks wisdom.
By that logic, Communism would be a better method of governance than capitalism, because all the corrupt Communist regimes were put in place by capitalistic countries, and the non-corrupt ones were constantly undermined by capitalistic countries.

I don't know how that can be your perception, when Google and Apple clearly need to be broken up, and have needed to be broken up for at least the last 5 years, if not more, and yet... nothing has been done.
and that's ignoring things like the T-Mobile merger, and all the other telecom problems that the US has, and we haven't even start to touch media companies yet...

I mean, the DOJ's been fucking the dog for the last 25 years so while there's a lot to blame Trump over, I don't think this is one of those things.
He certainly won't help the situation though.

This is crazy. HPE is just buying up all the networking companies and the DOJ is just OK with this?!
This is insane!
First Aruba and now Juniper.
This kind of concentration of power is what's wrong with Capitalism. This does nothing but reduces competition. Anyone who tells you capitalism is about free market competition, is an idiot. Capitalism is the antithesis of both free market and competition, because all capitalism does is breed monopolies that crush their competitors.

...Intel fired it's previous CEO that was an engineer and was working on long term engineering problems to fix the long term health of the company because they realized that long term doesn't mean 3 weeks or even 3 years, but that it could mean a decade to make the in-depth changes needed to keep Intel alive.
Instead they replaced the engineer with a business person who's first thought on solving Intel's huge technical problems is to divert the companies attention and focus from solving it's technical issues to working on a lengthy and in-depth rebrand?
This is insane.
There should be intelligence tests done before people are allowed autonomy, let alone the ability to make decisions that affect others.
I haven't checked yet, but I'll bet Intel's shares are up on this idiotic news.
