My car whinging that I'm wearing a seat belt would be grounds for a refund, to me. I would complain about a deliberate effort to hide the speedometer, to a consumer safety service.

... nailing the perfect gear change ...
There's no longer a demand for excellence: Obtaining perfection in everyday activities is no longer a personal goal for young people. They play online games where the only rule is point and click: Many times, there isn't a performance rating (high score, items collected, secrets found, monsters killed, kill cost/proficiency). Gaining attention (likes, retweets) is the preferred measure of success and value.

In days gone by, a powerful, fast and consistent UI was one of Microsoft's selling points: In the era of micro-marketing/up-selling, AI slop and enshittification, I don't trust Microsoft to improve anything.

Slave-owner asks, how can slavery bring meaning to your life?
This is the current choice of winner-takes-all capitalism: Doctorow looked at the consumer-side and called it "enshittification".

... nine times earnings.
That's because homes and market-facing apartments are commodities, not a a tool to make more consumers and tax-payers. That economic reality, which also applies to education and healthcare, has changed how families exist and why they don't.

Such models tend to have extra crap-ware installed, and the cost of internet data is much higher.

When people formed a co-operative and contributed money to it, creating a new business structure, the original argument for giving it legal protection was, for the good of the market. Despite this demand for a social contract, there has been/is little discussion on what the duties and responsibilities were/are. The Chicago School of Economics famously abandoned the demand for a social contract with "unreal" persons.
While corporations were, in fact, good for the market (until they created a cartel/monopoly), they were always bad for the rest of society: employees, unions, legal responsibility and law-making, bonds and loans financing, creditors, macro-economics and the environment, all suffered under the power of concentrated money and labour.

Facebook/Meta should not be forgiven when they willfully abuse people.

Translation:
It's okay to be a violent racist: It's the victim's job to be bulletproof.
This is the Chicago ideology of "corporations are naturally immoral" applied to everything. In truth, the social contract stopped being "corporations must serve the public good", 120 years ago.
Strangely, most people believe leaving your door unlocked does not excuse burglary of your home. Likewise, Facebook/Meta should be forgiven when they willfully abuse people.

A mid-range phone is US$400, a good wi-fi-only tablet is $450. Plus; screen protectors, cases, carry pouches; the costs increase by $60: The total is much less than $2,900.
The trade-off is a device with more weak spots: Breakage or theft means losing both phone and tablet. Separate devices, allows a wi-fi-only tablet: Which has marginally less spyware. A combined device means Samsung/phone company have more control over both devices. Separate devices allows separate accounts containing different PII. A combined device means everything is linked to one account and one identity.

BlueSky/SkyLight are US-owned corporations too: There's no benefit to leaving TikTok. If people aren't horrified about the data theft by Windows/Android and the spying by Meta/Alphabet/X, there's no reason to reason to choose a different tech-media corporation.

... simply rent prepared space ...
Shopping centres have higher rent because you're charged on foot-traffic and sales: Operating costs are higher, you have to open the same hours and days as the rest of the centre: That results in staff being casual employees. (Why some countries changed pension liabilities to include casuals.) That's before we get to the reality that the centre treats you as a fixed cost: No maintenance or improvements until the rental contract expires.
This 'poor landowners' rant also avoids the fact that the centre gets major concessions from the government: Which the government recoups by increasing costs on the businesses outside the shopping centre. That combined with the shoppers spending less time outside the centre, means many of those businesses shutdown. That further increases foot-traffic to the centre and the rental cost.

Attached to: US Congress Fails to Repeal 'Kill Switch' for Cars Mandate
Cars already have automatic speed-limiters (although no government has designed their signs to be machine readable) and no-crash/no-slide stopping: Why is that not enough? To put it another way: How many crashes occurred because the no-crash/no-slide technology, failed?
It's difficult to find a use-case for kill-switches, beyond the alcohol-detected/no-start devices already built. The only consistent argument for kill-switches has been government control of all vehicles.
This sounds like someone wanting a lot of money and government proving they 'care', more than a fix to a problem: The technology to make cars safer, already exists.
