I am now into my second week of unemployment. I have a job offer and start next Monday.
This would be great except I'm really enjoying unemployment. All the work related stress has been lifted from my shoulders. I have no travel planned, no economy seat hell. I got to write some code for fun. I've got a whole lot better at playing the guitar.
Perhaps somebody could give me a few million dollars. Then I could retire and live a stress free life.

If you left your former employer willing to grant your unemployment claim then you never had any real stress. Oh, the drama. Right.

Anyway, yes, I will go going out of my way to avoid the hole I got in in my previous job and stay where I'm used to being - on top of things. That includes making good use of all the time off.

I left my former employer because I hated the job. I had demands coming from all directions. I couldn't juggle them all at the same time. At the same time, I was working from home and the lack of external human interaction was driving me nuts.

With a family to support & mortgage to pay, you would think that unemployment would be more stressful than the job. However the sudden freedom from the ongoing demands of my job made me feel instantly better. I made some calls and got a new job rolling so my family

I can see how that would make it easy to leave on good terms with the management. I never really hated my job. I could no longer accept the utterly insulting level of compensation.

Not once, not yet, not ever has unemployment been more stressful for me than the jobs I've left. What made unemployment more stressful was dealing with family and creditors.

Sometimes you can't predict your own mental response to a change in circumstance
I've always gotten it correct.

I knew a former employer that I left on good terms. They took me back with a job for which I'm better suited. I also work in a quite public environment, so there are lots of people in lots of companies who know my face and style.

I have no clue if I can hook you up with a new job. I've done it before for some people but I stick to employee/employer pairings that I'm pretty sur

Yes, that's difficult to do. I cared about my work. I didn't want to leave. They had to create a situation which no reasonable human could possibly tolerate.

I hope that was a determination you made for yourself and not one which someone else made for you.

I'm over 30 and my best skill is at crunching eight hours of work into five hours so that I can go home and return to my hobbies in cooking, brewing, gardening, Linuxfromscratch, CNNHN, IRC, and SciFi.
