Fusion plants use fuel (expensive fuel).
They breed their own fuel.
And the first ones (we likely see them soon), wont be load following but only base load.
I disagree there will be fusion plants anytime soon or these issues matter. The inputs are essentially free and you can always shut down excess plants when they are not needed.
So, it is unlikely they can compete with solar or wind power, on price.
It is unlikely solar or wind will be able to compete in any dimension. Fusion is a non-polluting high density dispatachable energy source that will rapidly become cheaper to operate at scale than anything else. It will also be significantly less carbon intensive than solar.
You might be able to provide electrons cheaper when the sun is shining but then you will always have self-competition. With any substantive amount of solar in the mix when the sun is shining the value of the energy will be so low people will literally be paid to sink the excess limiting economic viability. High mixtures of intermittent renewables are inherently self-limiting due to expense involved in reconciling mismatches in supply vs demand. Attempting to undercut fusion with solar will only raise utility costs and delay decarbonization thru electrification resulting in avoidable environmental damage.

Basically, he completely obliterates the misinformation and lies continuously spread, either by ignorance or malice, by people like you. And he has the numbers to prove it. It's rather long, but very indepth and frankly quite easy to watch. Of course, I know full well that you won't watch it, because it contradicts your beliefs, and we can't have that now, can we ? But I hope it will be useful and interesting to other people here, and to those, liberals and conservatives, who are actually interested in reality.
I found it disappointing. He is making the same classic errors as most people when they first start researching these issues. Solar in the grand scheme of things can easily and cheaply produce far more electrical energy than is currently consumed. This is amazing yet aggregate production was never the salient issue needing to be solved.
The entire problem space is the distribution of non-dispatchable energy to time and place needed. A subject not seriously broached by the video you cite. Notice he did calculations for production but didn't say anything about the costs of storage for his 100% renewables scenario. The modeling I've seen years ago have nasty quadratic growth terms as a percentage of renewables especially beyond 80% to ensure grid stability making it completely infeasible with current technology to move entirely away from burning hydrocarbons.
The last time I tried to calculate the cost of an ESS with the capacity to buffer a single day of demand amortized over the service life of the battery exceeded the total cost of the entire electrical grid including transmission and generation and even this is wholly insufficient. There are basically three knobs you can turn with a wind/solar dominated grid: Over provisioning, distributed grid interconnection and storage. Even with careful optimization of these knobs it is currently infeasible to go all renewables with current technology.
By far the most bang for your buck is the over provisioning knob which necessarily means taking the carbon cost of production and multiplying it by the over provisioning factor which can easily be an order of magnitude or more. The same applies for the ESS and grid knobs.
This problem is not captured in current pricing structures like (L|V)COE as they are based on the grid as it exists today not the grid as it would exist in the future. It is therefore very easy for people to get confused and calculate carbon pricing contributing to the grid of today without understanding the impacts on the future. Simply put it is easy to dial back a gas plant when the sun is shining but that ease of integration disappears as the percentage of renewables grow.
The best renewable dominated strategy I know of is investing in large scale wind with hub height above 100M and ditching solar. The capacity factors and carbon cost of production are many times less for large scale wind and from a systems perspective a hell of a lot more usable.
There is presently still a lot of low hanging fruit and room for expansion of renewables into existing infrastructure and you can always accept the burning of some percentage of hydrocarbons to power the grid to reduce costs but this has follow on impacts. The plant costs increase as it takes longer to make up in volume capital costs. In the end you have a system where costs keep going up despite the addition of significant amounts of cheap renewables. This by the way is exactly what we are seeing in the real world. CA for example leads the nation in both solar and energy costs. From an environmental perspective this is disastrous because in order to meaningfully decarbonize requires grid with 2x the capacity of today at less than half the cost of today.

President Obama, was directly responsible for helping hand-craft President Autopen.
These bizarre issues don't mean anything to anyone outside of the echo chambers of partisan hacks and are often are not even factually coherent. Trueman not Obama started with the autopens.
Reminds me of the crackpot crowd currently cosplaying as public health officials who are all over bizzare HIV doesn't cause AIDs conspiracies.
And America's first Open Border Czar. To great detriment in a country infected with denialist one-sided media. President Obama in that regard, helped create and justify President Trump.
What I find amazing is Obama deported and turned away a couple million more people in his first term than Trump did in his. He made some lefties so mad they went around calling him deporter-in-chief.
It's really sad that incompetent nonsense that Didn't Earn It represents the first black representation in Americas leadership.
Personally I'd take Obama over a goddamn pathological liar, rapist, insurrectionist autocratic lunatic who didn't meet a murderous dictator he didn't instantly "fall in love" with any day.

As far as the wind/solar industries go, it's hard to see them lasting much longer assuming market players like Commonwealth and Helion get anywhere near their milestones.
I would agree wind and solar are ultimately screwed once fusion plants come online yet I would not expect to see that happening anytime soon. All these fusion companies with their endless meaningless milestones are more noise than signal.

It's time to let go of your TDS.
Now why on earth would anyone in their right mind ever do such a thing?
This would be like going outside to check your backyard every night at 3:00 AM after your crazy neighbor frantically knocks on your door to inform you of alien creatures frolicking about in your backyard. Most people have the good sense to stop checking their backyards after one or two such instances and if it persists to call the police.
What you are asking people to do is to take the crazy neighbor seriously giving them the benefit of the doubt each and every time they knock in perpetuity.
In the case of Trump we must ignore the fact he is a pathological liar and bullshit artist. Ignore his rich history of sleazy behavior, lawlessness, rape and incitement of insurrection against his country. So why on earth do you think he deserves the benefit of the doubt? What you call TDS is merely the normal consequence of a reputation Trump earned for himself by his own deeds.

2. I have zero trust in the intelligence community. Who pushed the Russia-Collusion hoax for two years?
"Senior members of the Trump campaign, including Paul Manafort, Donald Trump, Jr., and Jared Kushner took a June 9, 2016, meeting with Russian nationals at Trump Tower, New York, after outreach from an intermediary informed Trump, Jr., that the Russians had derogatory information on Clinton that was "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump.""
"Beginning in June 2016, a Trump associate âoeforecast to senior [Trump] Campaign officials that WikiLeaks would release information damaging to candidate Clinton." A section of the Report that remains heavily redacted suggests that Roger Stone was this associate and that he had significant contacts with the campaign about Wikileaks."
"The Report described multiple occasions where Trump associates lied to investigators about Trump associate contacts with Russia. Trump associates George Papadopoulos, Rick Gates, Michael Flynn, and Michael Cohen all admitted that they made false statements to federal investigators or to Congress about their contacts. In addition, Roger Stone faces trial this fall for obstruction of justice, five counts of making false statements, and one count of witness tampering."
"The Report contains no evidence that any Trump campaign official reported their contacts with Russia or WikiLeaks to U.S. law enforcement authorities during the campaign or presidential transition, despite public reports on Russian hacking starting in June 2016 and candidate Trump's August 2016 intelligence briefing warning him that Russia was seeking to interfere in the election."
https://www.acslaw.org/project...
Who setup Roger Stone, and General Flynn, although neither did anything wrong?
Roger Stone is a certified crackpot and Flynn is a traitor to his country. Both of them made knowingly false statements to law enforcement. FFS Trump himself publicly admitted this fact when he fired his sorry ass.
Who setup the J6 protesters?
Donald J Trump
Who raided Mar-a-Logo?
The FBI executed a search warrant to recover classified materials after asking for their return for a year.
17 intelligence agencies swore that Russian Collusion was real.
They were correct. Within hours of Trump's public "Russia are you listening" statement Russians got to work executing on his request. If you read the Muller report there is a huge body of evidence of collusion between Trump, his circle and the Russians.

You really need to cite the "documents" you imagine exist and implicate the President.
Personally I don't need any more evidence than this. You might, I don't.

This is the Joe Biden that had the Ukrainian Prosecutor fired before giving Ukraine $1BN in much needed aid while Vice President?
Biden leveraged aid to get rid of a corrupt prosecutor.
https://oversightdemocrats.hou...
The Joe Biden that had classified documents in his Philadelphia office tgat was paid for by Chinese front companies?
Biden's lawyers looked for, found and immediately surrendered classified documents in his possession. Trump over a years time was repeatedly asked and repeatedly refused to give up the classified material in his possession asserting it is his shit and he aint givin it back. The FBI had to eventually raid his ass to recover the materials. Then he went crying saying how unfairly he was treated when nobody else would have been given anywhere near that type of leniency.
The Joe Biden that called and took calls from Hunter at random times "just to discuss the weather" while Hunter was meeting with foreign business leaders?
The Joe Biden that claims to be intimately involved in his Sons life, but for a decade or more claims to have never asked Hunter who he works with/for, because...
The Hunter Hunter Hunter saga is especially sad. The right wing press for years has gone balls to the walls trying to link Hunter's crack addled schemes and attempts to exploit his dads position to "the big guy". Yet despite all the time spent they were never able to point to Biden himself doing anything improper to further Hunter's schemes. It was just a parody of dashed hopes and disappointment that kept the attention of right wing suckers and losers for years and ultimately yielded absolutely nothing.
Now when Trump openly and brazenly flaunts corruption with a shit coin, $2 billion Saudi investment in Jared Kushner, Qatar handing out 400 million dollar flying bejeweled craft and an industrial scale corrupt pardon scheme... it is all just la la la can't hear you la la la... P A T H E T I C...

Are you daft? This footage was literally on c-span, hence it being clipped on their site.
Anyone can clip and annotate content on the c-span website.
Not only that, the entire swearing-in photo op ceremony was Biden placing his hands on legislators' wives and kids. Not everyone will allows the evidence of their eyes to betray them as you do.
You're in here defending the integrity of a man for whom the democrats killed off the MeToo movement by slandering Tara Reade, not to mention the fraudulent Time's Up org that betrayed her. her.
For the life of me I don't understand this Biden c-span thing. Are you just gaslighting or do you actually believe what you are saying? I replayed the video taking care to follow his hands several times and each time I saw nothing. What is it that you think you are seeing? "Placing hands on people" could mean anything so please be specific. What is it you are alleging is evidenced by this video?
There are plenty of real clips of Biden doing weird things.. it isn't necessary to make shit up.

Intake is guaranteed to be full of noise and garbage with people just making shit up. Discipline is necessary to avoid falling into the trap of finding what you are looking for. It doesn't mean crazy shit didn't happen it does mean it needs to be taken in the proper context.
DOJ is still very much playing games with us. Just trying to get full 9 thru 11 datasets is a pain in the ass because they are intentionally sabotaging files truncation and sometimes zero filling archives trying to redact shit after releasing it.
Have a batch process running all night to extract text from the PDFs and it is still running. Volumes 9-11 are massive.

They only really make sense for people who can't get past their range anxiety, or who live in places with really bad charging infrastructure. You have to cart around an ICE, maintain it, fill it with petrol, fix it when one of the many complex parts goes wrong.
My dream car is a BEV towing a 20kW diesel genset plugged into the charging port.

The internet is a public place. What you do there is public. The whole world can watch while you do. It is designed that way, and there's nothing that can change that.
The Internet is a global communications network not a place. Any peer can only access whatever any other peer on the Internet feels like transmitting.
He can come up with whatever pods he wants, with the user having absolutely control over how it's used. But he can't control what everyone else observes in that public place, and what they do with it. Advertising companies like Google and Meta will still surveille everything they possibly can (which is, increasingly, everything), collect every byte available, subject it all to their algorithms, and sell advertising based on it.
Visiting Google or Facebook is a choice as is responding to datagrams from Google or Facebook.
The only way for the user to opt out is to not be on the internet, which is increasingly crippling in today's world, because the user has no role in what happens in that public place other than just being there to be spied on.
The Internet is just a global communications network. How it is used and who does what with it is entirely up to users. Personally I find the fatalistic commentary absurd given technology available to everyone. We all have free access to world class operating systems, networking, cryptographic, database, servers and programming languages of every kind. Capable hardware and high bandwidth global access is dirt cheap. What more do people want? Apparently everyone is doomed because everyone is powerless to do anything other than leech off a handful of global systems. Mark Zuckerburg is way smarter than everyone else. This is all just so pathetic.

If the issue is security concerns it would be easy enough to see that "old fashioned" h323 or SIP solutions do or don't send media streams anywhere but where you expect them to. Similarly if you are worried about even the toll record content, you could stand up your own gateways and federation, keep it all on official national government infrastructure or with a domestic provider that is trusteded etc.
So there would be not need to obsess over who the vendor is. Color me conspiratorial but I rather think these formerly open-ish peer to peer options were crippled by technology choices pushed for by greed from companies like Microsoft and more shadowy actors like the NSA, and five-eyes community types who did not like the idea of organizations having telecom networks that would have left little for outside observers to access.
WebRTC is ubiquitous. Everyone has a production quality, secure peer to peer SIP video phone and screen sharing suite baked into their browsers. The only thing needed to use it is some minimal server code to coordinate signaling anyone can do for basically nothing. Where it gets expensive are some forms of N:N distribution and working around NAT issues requiring middle men in the data path of some participants.

You don't need to connect to the grid to operate a charger. You don't need to connect to the grid to operate the pump of a water well. You don't need to connect to the grid if you power your workshop if you open after sunrise and close before dawn - Africa close to the equator does not have long winter nights. You don't even need to connect to the grid to power a refrigerator, because if those are isolated enough they will not defrost over night. And if you have an older model, you have to pay the money for a battery before connecting the refrigerator to your solar panel - some later to invest in.
You said "people buy some solar panels on the local market, strap them to their motorcycles and drive home in their village - instant electricity instead of long engineering."
I asked "What exactly are they taking home? Solar panels with a micro inverter they run an extension cord from the roof to a wall outlet to save money or a complete ESS?"
You neglected to answer my question instead going on about what is not needed. I think from your commentary you assume DC from PV can be used directly to power loads and people don't need batteries. Shit don't work that way.
