Some people are beyond hope, beyond the capabilities of the corrections system. A life of crime is all all they know, how they've got by all their life, and it would be very near impossible to do anything about it. They'd need to be permanently cut off their family and crime circles and effectively start a new life from zero. Not going to happen.
If you're beyond help and consistently provide negative value to the society, then perhaps the society is better off without you.

If you give companies choice, they will do the bare minimum to make containers recyclable while fully knowing that most people wouldn't bother doing it. They should make refillable, durable cartridges, with a guaranteed refill count. Full stop.

Yes and no.
Yes - your selection of funds is more informed and you think it may have coverage in assets.
No - it's just an illusion because it depends on whatever snake oil CEOs promise to you to affect your fund selection, and the unpredictable outcome when someone calls their bluff.

We just have absolutely no power to change it.
It's bestowed upon us by greedy bastards who want to sell us worthless things against our will and who know that the only way to make us pay up for all the ridiculous subscriptions and features is bully us into compliance.

Sure, they've been wrongfully arrested but I expected better than "a few minutes" before tripping an alarm. Clearly they needed better recce before playing Couching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the middle of the night. On a job like this you don't just walk in unprepared. You observe the place, walk in under a false pretext and take note of all the systems they may have, you research every single bit of kit you see on the walls. Only then, when you have a solid plan, you proceed with the objectives.

1. Allow disabling automatic updates. Indefinitely.
2. Allow disabling AI system-wide
3. Kill all nagware / ads.
4. Remove the Settings app and restore a proper, old-fashioned Control Panel.
5. Restore full support for local-only accounts.
6. Stop forcing hardware updates, such as TPM.
7. Stop constantly resetting system settings on updates.
8. Related to 7, stop resetting default apps / handlers.
9. Decouple from the OS and allow users to fully uninstall Edge.
10. Stop collecting all the bloody analytics.

Investing is gambling, just with a little more information about the game. Have you made bad bets and you don't want to sell at a loss? Well... Tough!

Alternatively, a spike-ejecting mechanisms with a paralysing toxin made out of an exotic fish like the pistol in the Law Abiding Citizen. If your phone detects a different fingerprint or gets too far away, paralyse the thief so that you can leisurely walk up to them and say "I'll have that back, thanks" and kick them up the arse for trying.

I've only had one video subscription for the past 12 months. It's more than enough on a regular basis. I've got shit to do, TV is just a filler, a background noise machine.

A few problems with that:
1. You've got to spend extra time setting it all up.
2. Then your setup may break at any point when they introduce more anti-piracy measures.
3. You can't just sit down after a hard day, press one button and make it work immediately.
4. Limited content.
5. Quality issues.
6. Unnecessary faff.
7. One day you may end up in legal trouble.
8. Probably many more other problems which I can't even be bothered thinking about.
At some point you wake up to a realisation that sure - you can make it work, but your time is better spent elsewhere, on things that actually matter.

Nah, it's not the realisation about the cost at all. I couldn't give a flying fuck about the cost.
It's about convenience. If $15 a month saves me hours searching for and downloading pirated films, it's money well spent.
