Ya know what would cure crime 100% in 100% of all cases? Preemptively killing everyone. We can justify it using your logic.

I think the trope demands that emacs incorporate systemd. You access it via ctrl-e ctrl-s or some such. (Don't flame me for that; I use vi, and don't know any emacs ctrl- keys.)

Not if systemd has a say in things. Give it time.

Some slimy sales manager, which I liken to a Soviet "Political Officer" character in a mid-80s cheesy novel, said, "What if we did $this during normal operation, so we could insert some ads and 'improve' the 'user experience'?" Meanwhile, the actual developers are like, "WTF? Who would want that?" But the Political Officer has a higher rank, and the CEO listens to him more, so users are left with a shitified experience.
Fk these managers. Every last one of them.

Well, in fact, 40 years ago when I worked as a stock boy in the local grocery store, we *did* get pallets of grocery items out of a trailer. The driver and shift manager took turns unloading the pallets from the trucks. I know this, because I either watched, or took our jack and moved loaded pallets out of the way, or took product off the pallets to stock on the shelves. Got an interesting story about another stock boy who didn't know how to work a jack, but that's for another time.
I don't know if that store, which has changed ownership at least once since then - and it was 40 years ago - still does it that way, but I can ask if you're inclined to push the issue.

It depends. I receive goods that are palletized, and the driver grabs the pallets off the truck and dumps them on our dock. It might take him all of a minute per pallet, depending on how well the rest of his load is situated, but he does it.

I wish rail were more accessible. I deliver typically two pallets of goods from Podunk to 3/4 out on Long Island - it's about 450 miles one way - and it would be grand if I could stick it on a train and have it delivered. But there's no real terminal for trains either here or there. As it is, we use LTL when we can, which I suppose is just as good, but having driven through the NYC metro area hundreds of times to make this delivery, trains would help minimize commuter traffic.

No, not really. I had to look it up based on your comment. I'm not a news-o-phile, but I do pay attention to various topics around the world, and this bombing didn't appear anywhere in my view. Shame.

Eh, I dunno. If I work for MegaCorp, and see that they're laying off thousands of people, it's going to shake my faith in the company, regardless. Maybe I survived, today, but do I really want to stick around for the next batch?

What if it's actually a stragedy (h/t to Bugs)? What if they intentionally "mistakenly released" this letter before the official release to get people used to the idea that they might be let go? The victims get the unmistakable idea that people are going, but they don't if it's them. Then, when it happens, they could, "I knew it! Those bastards!" and it's not a complete shock.

I can see how having all of your eggs in one basket can be convenient, but I'd rather my screwdriver screws and my hammer hams. I don't want a hybrid "screw-ham" where it does neither very well. If I'm docked and working on a spreadsheet, or compiling code, and I get a phone call, am I supposed to shut everything down and take the call? If it's a private call, I don't want it sent to speaker so everyone around me can hear it. This may be one of those, "Not for me, but fine for others" products.
