You see two products on the shelf one is cheaper and you know it sacrifices quality. You don't care.
Most don't care.
Those that do care often enjoy the kind of quality and benefit that infers buy once, cry once. Constantly replacing even "cheap" items makes them not cheap. Inflation is a bitch when you consider *anything* you bought last century and are now buying again is twice as expensive. Multiply that across a lifetime and you can really start to find respect a product built and guaranteed for life. Including the price.
I wonder who might still be using high quality North Carolina fabric, and who might have replaced *good enough* fabrics three times already.

I notice that you said the output of Claude is cheaper, not better. Thank you mister clueless pointy-haired boss who doesn't care if your company produces shit code and shit products, as long as it is "cheaper".
Thank Microsoft, for writing The Billionaire's Guide to Suck-cess?
Thank the consumer, who kept buying it? Like, every time?
How many more thanks across the face would you like? Feels like you're standing next to two sheiks arguing over a Cannonball Run.

Anthropic's terms and conditions dictate that Claude can't be used for any actions related to domestic surveillance. That limits how many law-enforcement agencies..
The US Government rather enjoys the self-waiving fact that diesel emissions rules do NOT apply to any of the same-same vehicles us commoners also drive. We The People get to enjoy prematurely destroying our engines with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) nonsense, while the same vehicle gets the Emissions-Bullshit-Delete option for US Gov. A perfect example of Rules for Thee.
Am I shocked to find Anthrophic has some form of anti-Skynet verbiage in the Ts&Cs? No, not really. Great to see actually. We've theorized about Three Laws and fantashitsized all over Skynet for decades long enough to ensure we think about it.
Am I shocked to find US Gov considering following those rules instead of simply smashing the Rules for Thee button? Uh, yeah. I am. That's..odd. Good, but odd.

A large company contracting with the US military must surely be aware that the run the risk of being connected with something untoward.
That is comes as a surprise is somewhat surprising.
When I was first hired on at a defense contractor (100% civilians), I was made to sign a document stating that I was not a conscientious objector.
Several years later, I asked a new hire about it. They looked at me like I asked them about their vacation on Venus. Guessing the policy went by the wayside long ago. Probably should bring it back for those in the business of defense contracting.
Particularly with a (self-identified) War Department.

"No surveillance" of ... anyone? Ever? Or what?
Please. The way they get around such verbiage, is to simply re-define it.
We're not surveilling. We're merely observing. No? OK, then we're studying. Or, observing. You know, think of the children and shit.
Hell, my gut feeling is the reason it's being pushed back is because Anthropics surveillance is taking money out of the pockets of others doing the same damn surveillance. Not like we're going to pretend anyone is running low on that shit these days.

Michael Saylor and Strategy have been buying up a lot of Bitcoin on it's way down. This wasn't a trivial amount, either... we're talking tens of thousands of Bitcoin for tens of millions of dollars. It will be interesting to see what the bankers who lended him the money to buy that crypto will do if Bitcoin drops even further and they start showing huge losses.
As a taxpayer, I find nothing interesting about an entity claiming they're Too Big To Fail.
Not a fucking thing.

... just use it as a, power wasting, search engine?
Uh, exactly what else is it supposed to do at work?
Maybe an actual manager who actually knows what it takes to run the business, should sit and have a chat with Toddler AI. See exactly how useful that tool is beyond a glorified search engine that can (kinda) be trusted to provide accurate feedback. Maybe even compare the results to traditional search engines to ensure it's not actually making the business worse. Or employees dumber.
The proverbial jury is no longer out on the end results of "social" media making humans anything but IRL. IQ is measurably lower as a result of putting a planet worth of information in everyone's pocket. It did the exact opposite of what most thought it might do 30 years ago. You're damn right we should be testing it first.

I've seen many people comment on other discussion platforms they are using AI simply because the leadership at their employer is requiring it.
I'd imagine one of the fastest ways to reverse that mentality is to start bragging to your boss about how awesome AI is at doing their job.

Just so they can say they are in 19 states.
There are over 4,500 Wallmart stores in America. Over 10,000 worldwide.
Do the per-state math. I'm pretty sure they're well beyond the playground look-at-me antics of "just so they can say".
Besides, it's a test. Walmart cares about profits. Every time. If it's not profitable, they'll get rid of it.

What's the actual play here for Walmart? There doesn't seem to be enough market penetration for EVs (especially not in "rural America") for the investment to be worth it, unless Walmart plans on using the charging stations for their own vehicles somehow.
I'm guessing that customers of Wal-Mart stay in that store at least XX minutes. And XX minutes was calculated to be profitable at XX charging rates.
On top of the profit inthe store. Hell, they might even consider EV charging a free service with a receipt over XX dollars.
Wal-Mart cares about profit. Not politics. If guns aren't a profitable department, they get rid of them. If they're profitable, then they carry them. Plain and simple. We've seen the entire spectrum in stores. From no guns to gun store jealously. All depends on sales.

wow, this is pretty pathetic. ya'll are getting sweaty and desperate, the classics dont work anymore. socialist? obama? bruh its been a decade, the world has passed you by, seeing republicans still trying this... this is just getting sad
President Obama, was directly responsible for helping hand-craft President Autopen. And America's first Open Border Czar. To great detriment in a country infected with denialist one-sided media. President Obama in that regard, helped create and justify President Trump.
Twice.
It's really sad that incompetent nonsense that Didn't Earn It represents the first black representation in Americas leadership. And I mean that because I don't consider myself a racist by any means. That said, don't expect America to fall for DEI again anytime soon, no matter the skin color. Desperation, now defines the Democrat party strategy.
Good luck with a Kardashian on the ticket with Newscum. Tripling down on ignorance seems to be the liberal playbook.

Interesting question, but more importantly, can it run DOOM?
I really don't think that's an "important" question to raise in a room full of doctors trying to help humanity.
The military quietly listening in the background however, might be looking to run DOOM on a foreign body..

Tech is neither good nor evil. All technological devices have potential for evil use, as well as potential for good use. Moral evaluations apply to actions, not objects.
And when will morality be a calculated variable with every technology?
Please refer to human history for near-infinite amounts of ignorance to validate why I'm asking. We created the nuclear weapon as a way to end wars, and yet we still find a way to wage them and simply ignore nuclear weapons. That is what we're capable of doing with "technology".
Technology being used for evil, doesn't need anything more than ignorance to do it.

...off Martha's Vineyard, near where the Obamas and major celebrities live. I'm sure they'll welcome those views, just like they welcomed the illegal aliens flown in from Texas and Florida
You know, it's subjective. I don't find anything objectionable in the appearance of wind turbines. There are a lot of them within 100km of where I live. While I can't see any from my house, it's because I'm in the city proper. And I really, genuinely wouldn't care if I could. There's nothing inherently more objectionable about a wind tower than say... a barn.
For most of the objectors, this isn't about the view. It's about the existing investments in fossil fuels. Competition bad.
I'd more like to believe those sitting in Martha's zip code were suddenly subjected to the kinds of green taxes us peasants have to often pay, and were suddenly against paying for it.
Yeah, Obama..those turbines are going to reduce your electric bill, JUST like you promised when you were in office. Sometime in 2037. After you pay for them. And the CEOs yacht.

The project we're discussing is Vineyard Wind. It is an off-shore wind power project located off the coast of Martha's Vineyard.
So, the ultra-rich socialists living in Marthas zip code, were suddenly subjected to the kinds of zip code-bound taxes the peasants face when financing Americas Green Dream, and suddenly they're against paying for it?
Color me surprised.
