Attached to: Microsoft To Replace All C/C++ Code With Rust By 2030
Apple rewrote its OS as a layer on top of Linux maybe 25 years ago.
To clarify, OS X was descended from NeXTSTEP, which was built on Mach and BSD.

I was always told that my parakeet thought it's reflection was another bird and just accepted that. I even see wild birds strutting around and seemingly, interacting with their reflections in car mirrors or shiny glass. Now, i think this isn't them mistaking the reflrection for a bird, but understanding it's their reflection. I think they are just checking out what they look like while strutting around the same way i have a hard time not checking myself out in a mirror.

I like to bike to surfing or the skatepark. I had been leaving my phone behind as it just seems like the kind of thing that would get lost or broken. My wife said, "you should get that watch that would let me text you in case of an emergency."
What could i say? She wanted me to buy a tech toy. I'm not foolish enough to ruin that opportunity. I got the watch.
Turns out that it's nice. I can leave my wallet, phone, and keys (because i made an app that opens my garage door through a raspberry pi) behind. I can send a text to my wife that i'm coming home, or i'm staying out longer and she's happy. I can buy a burrito. Where a phone became an extra thing that i started carrying, the watch let me stop carrying a bunch of things.
best of all, unlike my phone, it's never really tempting me. i look at it when i need something from it, but never get sucked into checking just one other thing. It feels like a tool that i use rather than a battle of wills.
sure, tim cook knows when i'm pooping, but he also isn't able to tempt me to buy a new one every year. this few years old model continues to do everything i need it to do. The crummy thing is that, at least on the apple side, you still need a phone for it. you can't just go stand alone watch yet.

Good to see that car manufacturers can also get away with INABIAF every once in a while.
It's true. every thing about the wrangler is technically bad. It's slow. It handles terribly. The ride is rough and bumpy. It all contributes to something that is super fun to drive.
efficiency is terrible and honestly i can't pretend to wave that away. The mpg is terrible and i feel bad for liking the car so much. The only way i can resolve my cognitive dissonance there is to support policies that seem to move us away from reliance on the tech.
efficiency is still an issue for electric drive, but i think it's a bit different. at highway speeds, they will never go as far as a sleek tesla on a single charge, but at low speeds, i don't think you'd see as much difference as the tech matures.

The new bronco is a fine looking platform
If you don't mind 17-21 mpg fuel economy.
Yeah. efficiency is always an issue with a cube shape, especially at highway speeds. I'm looking forward to a time when the criticism of cars like a wrangler or bronco is that it only goes 200 miles on a charge instead of 400.

I'm super interested in this. Jeep's 4xe is almost good enough, but not quite. The new bronco is a fine looking platform and i expect ford will be bringing some of the tech from the f150 lightning over to it soon. the return of scout as an all electric is exactly the kind of competition i'd like to see in this market.
the cybertruck, i'm pretty sure at this point, is just imaginary. even if it does get released, it just doesn't excite me. my off road suv shouldn't be a hermetically sealed space capsule. i'm not driving it on mars. i want a slightly clunky feeling open air platform that lets the dirt and bugs in there with me.

I get that there is one coinbase wallet that holds all the funds. I don't get how its that much different from something like an etrade, or any custodial account. are all these things subject to the same whims?
