Ok, so it's a store of value with no return. How is it better than inflation indexed bonds?

So is a cubic foot of dirt, I suppose. What is the expected return on silver, and how do you arrive at the number?

I fail to see how a whitepaper on monero generally is responsive to my post.
Swap exchanges allow someone to swap bitcoin for monero, for example. This works if one can't find a way to purchase monero with regular currency. Purchase bitcoin with regular currency, then swap for monero.

Sure, but bitcoin is a hell of a lot more volatile than the US dollar, for example.

Silver is similar to bitcoin in the sense that both are used as speculative assets. By contrast, bonds have a contractual rate of return, and equities are shares in productive companies with earnings.

What's better from a privacy perspective? I've seen monero recommended but not sure if there are other better coins. It's hard to find exchanges that will allow the purchase of monero with normal currency. There are also swap exchanges, but I'm not sure how hard they are to use.

That would have been a smart move in hindsight.
I had just graduated with a master's and was working my first job out of school at a startup that paid below market rate and had no benefits. I did do the max Roth IRA contribution that year, but that was it. I was pretty clueless about finances.

I purchased a low end Motorola phone for $130 and have an $8/month plan with US Mobile on AT&T's network. I don't think a traditional carrier can beat this.
Back in 2015 or so, I was at an AT&T store getting a SIM card for a pay-as-you-go plan for another low end Motorola phone. The rep tried to upsell me on data, and I asked why on earth I would need more than 1GB or whatever. He pulled out his phone, opened a video, and exclaimed, "Youtube!" Another customer entered the store and asked about replacing their broken iPhone. The cost was $800. I asked the rep if phones really cost that much, and he replied, "Yes, but that's why I have insurance. It's only $20/month."
I left the store dumbfounded.

and like usual, the question of how they thought they'd get away with it
This is the story, in my opinion. A sysadmin should have at least some understanding of logs and paper trails. "Should" is a big word.

Correct. The fact that they fraudulently purchased phones through a payment system that leaves a paper trail and shipped the phones to their own home address demonstrates an inability to think. Your insightful take on their best course of action is the result of thinking.

I encourage you to widely share your views with people you know in real life.
Personally, I'm choosing to not have children, in part because I don't want to force living in this world upon another sentient being who isn't able to choose it for themself. It's amusing because I'm probably not among the class of people you wish wouldn't procreate.
Advocating the, presumably forced, sterilization of others goes way too far. Reserving that sort of treatment for particular groups of people is horrific, especially when the distinction seems to be based solely on wealth.
Again, broadly improve quality of life across a given population, and the birth rate goes down. It seems you would rather have the forced sterilization of poor people. That's really something.

It's not a certain number of years away, it's a certain number of dollars away. This is a solvable engineering problem. Fund it, and they can get it done.
