09-12-2025 - 10:59 The Parliament’s media grants programme, managed by the Directorate-General for Communication, plays a strategic role in reinforcing the visibility and understanding of the European Parliament’s work across the Union, which is essential for its functioning and a healthy European democracy. These grants are awarded to media organisations based in the 27 EU Member States with the aim of supporting the production of regular, reliable and impartial information about the European Parliament, its Members, and its activities. The programme fosters a pluralistic and inclusive media environment, while fully upholding the editorial independence of all beneficiaries. Grants are allocated through open calls for proposals, published on the European Parliament’s webpage dedicated to grants. ●Grant beneficiaries retain full editorial independence, including in the themes, title and frame chosen and must ensure adherence to the EU’s core values as stated in Article 2 of the Treaty on the European Union, guaranteeing freedom from public or private pressure in all editorial matters. ●The objective of the programme is to increase public awareness of the European Parliament’s role as a democratic voice of EU citizens, to ensure non-biased, wide and balanced coverage of its work across Member States, and to promote public debate on European issues. ●Media outlets interested in applying must meet eligibility and exclusion criteria related to financial and operational capacity. ●Proposals are evaluated by an independent panel of experts from across the EU, based on four main criteria: relevance, quality, reach, and cost-efficiency. ●New calls for proposals are published regularly on the same official webpage, along with application guidelines and information on eligibility, timelines and available funding. ●The list of the grants awarded is publicly available. These grants are awarded in full respect of and are implemented in compliance with editorial freedom.
By supporting media to deliver fact-based, reliable, accessible coverage of EU affairs, the Parliament contributes to a more informed public debate, and strengthens democratic accountability at European level.
