Sonnet、Appleの開発キットにも採用された「eGFX Breakaway Box」でNVIDIAのGPUをmacOS Sierraで利用する方法を公開。

　SonnetがAppleの開発キットにも採用された同社のeGPU Box「eGFX Breakaway Box」を利用し、NVIDIAのグラフィックスカードをmacOS 10.12.6 Sierraで利用する方法を公開しています。詳細は以下から。

　アメリカの周辺機器メーカーSonnetは2017年08月15日、Appleの開発者用キット「External Graphics Development Kit」にも採用されているThunderbolt 3に対応した外付けeGPU Box「eGFX Breakaway Box」をmacOS 10.12.6 Sierraで利用する方法をまとめたインストールガイドを公開しています。

The Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box is Thunderbolt certified for Windows and macOS, is certified for external graphics under Windows 10, but not yet certified for external graphics under macOS. Nevertheless, we understand that many users have experienced success using the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box for external graphics and/or CUDA with macOS Sierra.[…]Note that you will not be able to obtain support from Apple or NVIDIA for external graphics under macOS at this time.

eGFX Breakaway Box Support Library – Sonnet Support

　SonnetはAppleやNVIDIAはサポートしていないものの、eGPUコミュニティなどによってmacOS 10.12.6で「eGFX Breakaway Box」を利用しNVIDIAのGPUが利用できていることを理解しているとしてインストールガイドを公開したそうで、

ガイドにはThunderbolt 3搭載のMacだけでなく、Thunderbolt (1)/2のMacでもアダプタを利用することで利用できたと記載されており、NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060を用いたHeavenベンチマークではThunderbolt 3から順に55.3fps, 54.3fps, 51.8fpsというスコアになったそうです。



　互換性のあるNVIDIAのグラフィックスカードは以下の通りで、利用するにはNVIDIAのWebドライバやeGPU.ioのメンバーらが開発している”automate-eGPU.sh“, csrutilを利用しmacOSのSIPを無効にするなどの手順が必要となっており、

もし、AppleがmacOS 10.12.7 Sierraなどのアップデートを提供した場合automate-eGPU.shで書き換えたkextなどを元に戻しておく必要(アンインストール)があり、Macのスリープから復帰しないといった不具合も報告されているので、興味のある方は自己責任で利用してみて下さい。
