This category consists of women who have made dames for their sporting achievements. A dame is the female equivalent of a knight (the title "Dame' is used instead of "Sir" in the case of substantive, but not honorary, appointments) in the British honours system, as well as that of the system of some British Commonwealth systems, and some non-British systems, typically in translation.
