To suggest that there is a connection to the unfortunate Andrés Escobar is a slander on the rule of law in Paraguay.

regardless, there is the strong connection between the two incidents. real conversation on what the state of futbol is in Paraguay is fair.
Strong connection? A ton of own goals have been scored in WC history I'm sure, and only one of them led to a tragic event. Gamarra is already a legend and one of the most loved players in Paraguayan football history, and to think that an own goal will lead to a tragedy such as Escobar's death is absurd. Please think before you add information to an article. Bruno18 01:36, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
When Escobars goal put columbia out, the columbians were highly expecting to win the tournament. The same cannot be said for paraguay. Also Escobar had strong gang connections, and this has also been attributed to his asassintion. Philc TECI 17:34, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
