Does any comic strip stuff belong in this article?

edit

The article currently brings in European comic strips such as Pif--are these really gag cartoons? In the US context, gag cartoons are defined by the fact that they are usually in a single-panel format, distinct from multi-panel comic strips. Unless those are specifically and frequently referred to as "gag cartoons" (not merely "gags"), I think that should be deleted from this article. Likewise, the comic-strip category... the point is, gag cartoons are NOT comic strips (nor are they animated). I'd also vote for dropping the reference to Nick Magazine on the short list of notable publications---it really doesn't come close to the New Yorker or Punch in terms of its importance to the field. Playboy, Collier's, and several other not listed are far more significant. BTfromLA 16:35, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's been more than a year with no cmment on this, so I'll take the liberty of cutting the mention of European strips. BTfromLA (talk) 05:53, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why aren't Ted Key and Hazel included?

edit

Hazel (comics) was definitely a gag (one-panel) cartoon famous in The Saturday Evening Post, and recognized as such. These need to be included in the lists of notable gag cartoons and cartoonists. JustinTime55 (talk) 15:00, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
