the 'white impact text on the top and bottom of an image' format is nowhere near as popular now as it was a few years ago, and lolcats are pretty much dead at this point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.79.61.67 (talk) 22:06, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Original image macros

The typical image macro has gone back much further than the internet, with examples like Harry Whittier Frees adding text to funny pictures of cats back in the early 1900s.
