For anyone who wants to do mundane research:
List of school districts in Illinois is outdated. School districts are consolidating by the dozen each year now; I see a couple sets of districts to merge already. Also, some of the school district names are strangely abbreviated, like Peoria Heights. It would be nice if each county had which Region of Education it's in also, since school district numbers are only unique within an RoE.
Although you have to look into the history of the List of school districts in Illinois page to see it, I was the one who essentially created the current page when I replaced the then-existing entries with a "complete" list. What I did was copy the "Illinois Public School Districts by County - School year 2004-2005" list from the Illinois State Board of Education [1] into an Excel spreadsheet. I I spent a couple of hours cleaning up the list, including trying to replace as many of their odd abbreviations as I could. The 2005-06 list is now available on the site. I certainly welcome corrections. -- DS1953talk17:56, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think that it may make some more sense to make this thing easier to read. I have an idea for this: boldening every other school district on the list (For example:
District 1
District 2
District 3
District 4
Just to show) Will make it easier to discern the individual school districts. Just a thought out there in the wind, you know?

This can be a very useful page for anyone looking for jobs in education. I went ahead and added as many websites as I could, at least in the chicagoland area. I also changed "web site" to "website" because that is the proper spelling. Splent (talk) 17:13, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Added some websites and Reverted to by County Listing

I too have been updating website links. Many schools seem to have moved their websites since they were added to this page, so I have updated the links, and for many schools that did not have website links yet, I have been adding them. However, someone changed the list to be in alphabetic order, but I believe this page is a much better resource to those looking for information on schools near where they live, are thinking of moving, or who are looking for jobs in education if it maintains its by county organization, so I have reverted it back to the county version. If others disagree with me, would you please post on this discussion page before it is changed, so that I know that many others think alphabetic is better and why.

I strongly disagree with the county listings. There are many places in the country for which this would make sense, but many others where it does not. Take a look at just one example. The Olympia Community School District, in central Illinois, has a territory that includes communities in Logan County, McLean County, Tazewell County, and DeWitt County (and perhaps more, these are the only ones that I know of). Here it is listed in McLean County, probably because its district headquarters are in McLean, but so what?
And this situation is very, very common in Illinois, Accordingly, this listing gives a completely inaccurate picture of the way districts in Illinois are organized, and a county listing is simply inappropriate, however well-intended it was. HuskyHuskie (talk) 06:57, 21 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I had responded at WP:ENL a few days ago, pointing out that it's easy to find proper references for verification, and that the links do not belong. I've gone ahead and started removing the links. --Ronz (talk) 17:06, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
If consensus was to remove/move them, that could be done in 15 seconds by someone with an advanced text editor. I'm not sure there was consensus on Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard/Archive 2#List articles though. If these official links are to be removed in main article namespace, I would strongly recommend the article be duplicated in project namespace so that this information can be retained. These links exist for a reason other than promotion: they are to assist Wikipedia editors. The list makes official site (as a starting point and external link) immediately available for a new article. School districts have already been determined to be notable on Wikipedia, if I remember — indeed, that is most likely why these links were added: because these articles should be created. I doubt this would open the door for allowing spamlinks for redlinks whose notability is poorly established. I seem to remember other lists of "known notability" on Wikipedia having similar links for uncreated articles. (Probably no reason for official site or statistics link for unredirected bluelinks, though.) This could be very helpful if a script were to mass-generate school district articles the way county, municipality, and township articles were originally created. --Closeapple (talk) 02:40, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
For anyone interested in the version of with the external links, it can be viewed here:
I can remove the remainder of the links fairly easily if editors prefer. I have been checking everything I remove against the ref link at the bottom of the article (everything checks out so far), but if that isn't necessary the process certainly can be expedited. ✤JonHardertalk19:58, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Is there a way to post the page with the links on the front page? This page is a HUGE resource to potential and current teachers who are looking for jobs... especially with the way education is right now in Illinois, teachers could sure use this resource. If it's against policy I guess it doesn't matter, but teachers are hurting right now! Splent (talk) 21:00, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
If you click on the link under "External links", that site lists all the DOE and District websites (towards the bottom of the page). --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I see, thank you... i just wish it was divided by county like this site was. I will go back and forth between the old version of this site with the external links and that. Splent (talk) 14:28, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
