InPapal_election,_1268–71#Procedure it is stated that the cardinals nearly elected Philip Benizi, general of the Servite Order, who had come to Viterbo to admonish the cardinals, but fled to prevent his election. I am unsure how reliable that statement is, but I guess it should either be both in the papal election article as well as here, or in neither. Perhaps one of the authors, like Polylerus can say something sensible about this? effeietsanders08:37, 15 March 2017 (UTC) This is a story that occurs in some of his early legends, but it is not necessarily true. Nevertheless, there were several changes in popes while Philip was Prior General of the Servite. When I have more time I can offer some bibliography that deals with this question. Unfortunately most of the sources that have been linked to this page are actually fairly weak. user:AaobrienReply
