The Porteñazo or Puerto Cabello Uprising was an uprising of the Puerto Cabello naval base. Unlike the "Carupanazo" the『Porteñazo』represented a civilian-military conspiracy of far greater magnitude, both for the forces involved, the intensity of the struggle and the terrible toll of dead and wounded left. At dawn on June 2, 1962, an uprising occurs in Puerto Cabello naval base (Edo Carabobo), led by Captain Manuel Ponte Rodriguez, Commander Pedro Medina Silva and Lieutenant Commander Victor Hugo Morales. As soon as the national government learns of the attempted coup, sending troops from the Army and Air Force to bomb and around the city, resulting in frontal combat between rebel forces battalion of marines General Rafael Urdaneta (who had joined the revolt of officers and soldiers of the naval base and civilian groups armed by them) and Carabobo Battalion had moved from Valencia, led by Colonel Alfredo Monch, the famous and tragic since the site Alcantarilla.1 At the same time, most of the officers in command of the squadron and detachment No. 55 National Guard refused to participate in the uprising. Finally, on June 3, the Ministry of Interior announced that since the dawn, the loyalist armed forces had put down the rebellion which left over 400 dead and 700 wounded. Three days later, after being captured the leaders of the revolt, fell the last stronghold of the insurgents, Fortin Solano. Hi everyone! I just wanted to add a new section to talk about the economic status of a once bustling port city, as I think it's a vital turning point for Puerto Cabello. I don't think it is relevant in any of the other sections in the page, so I am going to add an Economy section.
