Is he known as Richard B Myers or Richard Myers. If the initial is important then it has to be kept in. If not, not. (I don't know the answer!) FearÉIREANN 23:18 11 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I think the "B." is left out by the media most (but not all) of the time. --Jiang

Infobox portrait

edit

Myrecent edit swapping File:Richard Myers official photo.jpg for File:Richard Myers official portrait 2.jpg as the lead infobox image was revertedbyUser:Corkythehornetfan on the grounds that the "most recent official photo, like everything else here, goes in the infobox". However, I am unaware of any such policy and, even if it does exist (which I doubt), it certainly is not widely enforced. It seems nonsensical that a portrait of Myers as an elder university administrator in a civilian suit fills the infobox. Myers' primary notability is as a USAF general and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Which is precisely why his official portrait as Chairman (which I reinstated to the infobox) was used as the primary image from May 2006 until January 2018. A number of other Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs (such as Maxwell D. Taylor) have held important civil positions following their military career. Yet, Myers' is the only one other than Colin Powell (who, arguably, is better or at least equally as well known as a statesman) in which a civil portrait appears in the infobox. File:Richard Myers official photo.jpg should appear in the article. But given Myers' primary notability, the standard set by almost every other article on Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs, and the use of Template:Infobox military person, it seems reasonable that one of the available, high quality military portraits be used as the lead image. Since no objections have been raised in the last two weeks, I will be restoring the edit as per the status quo prior to January 2018. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 01:09, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
