Someone please explain why there is a cover of this song that came out in 1997

edit

The group "Almighty" in the UK released a cover version of this song in 2007 on an Album called "We Are Queer as Folk". The artist is listed as "Almighty Girls"... They have since re-released this song as a single to capitalize on the smash success of Adele, but I would like to know, WHY there was a cover in 2007 if Adele didn't supposedly write and perform this song until 2010 and she is credited as the original song writer?????!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.192.149.18 (talk) 21:52, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

No..they didnt release a cover version in 2007, ....they released it in 2011. 86.177.185.149 (talk) 07:56, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Key

edit

The article mentions that the song is in the key of A major. According to the reference, A major is the original published key, but I believe Adele sings it in B-flat major.[1] Listen to the first three notes and the chord played by the piano.

Cover versions

edit

I haven't read the entire section yet (actually, I'd bet no one reads the whole section), but the first third or so is a bunch of one or two sentence paragraphs written as one massive listing of entirely trivial cover versions.

Per WP:COVERSONG, we generally do not include cover versions unless one of two conditions applies:

1) The cover version is discussed in independent reliable sources writing about the song (e.g. if Joe Blow's cover is mentioned in an article about Blow, that's trivial. We need coverage about the song that discussed Blow's cover).

-or-

2) The cover version would otherwise be notable independent of the original (e.g. if Joe Blow's cover was a top 40 hit).

WP:COVERSONG, as I see it, is meant to discourage the mess we have here. Carrying the list that has grown here over to the Beatles "Yesterday" would result in an extensive (and worthless) list tens of thousands of entries long, as would "Happy Birthday to You", "The Star Spangled Banner", etc.

So far, none of them clear that bar. Comments before I start cleaning out the trivial covers? - SummerPhDv2.0 20:57, 3 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Good article?

edit

This article looks pretty solid at a glance. Anyone have plans to nominate for Good status? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:13, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I haven’t contributed to this article, but upon a glance it does not look like it’s GAN ready. Some sections, particularly live performances, are too bloated.—NØ 11:51, 8 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in Someone like You (Adele song)

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Someone like You (Adele song)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "bpi":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 10:36, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
