An advantage[citation needed] of tilt wing over ...

why?! it's just pure logic/physics.

- actually , the angle of attack is negative on the fixed wing of the tiltrotor during hover and transition. Boeing has stated that this creates 10% loss for the V-22. The tiltwing therefore has an advantage regarding this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.35.74.24 (talk) 16:16, 8 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tiltwing definition

edit

The article states that tiltwings typically can takeoff vertically, indicating that some tiltwings are STOL, not VTOL. Some aircraft seem to blur the lines between older definitions. Maybe this is not a true tiltwing, but it seems to tilt its wings to get shorter takeoff : "The airplane also can vary the angle of attack of the wings to significantly shorten the takeoff requirements" .
