Where do these requirements for autonomous ground vehicles come from? They seem completely arbitrary and somewhat unrealistic, such as "Work for months or years without human intervention"

Why does the very first paragraph of this article explicitly say these are military robots? Generally, this is the case, but it is definitely not a requirement to be classified as a UGV. This article relies only on military craft and ignores civil applications, such as the autonomous car, or robots used by various emergency crews or extraterrestrial rovers like the Opportunity rover. Non-military applications should be included. Tony Mach (talk) 06:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Information about UGV design and commercial uses has been added with a large number of new references. Perhaps it is enough to remove the notes at the lede and before the design section.
