When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:

Template {{Redirect category shell}} may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation page below.

When used by itself:

  • This template tags redirects with a subcategory of the Redirects from incorrect names category, so template {{R from incorrect name}} should not be used with this template.
  • Shortcut

    Usage

    edit
    Example: the mainspace article redirect Kiss this guy may be tagged:
    #REDIRECT [[Purple Haze]]

    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation}}
    {{R unprintworthy}}
    }}

    Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:[example needed]
    #REDIRECT [[Purple Haze]]

    {{R from misquotation}}
    {{R unprintworthy}}

    This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation|1=(correct quotation)}}
    }}

    or the 1= may be omitted:
    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation|(correct quotation)}}
    }}

    with the |of= parameter:
    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation|of=(correct quotation)}}
    }}

    and when used individually:
    {{R from misquotation|(correct quotation)}}or{{R from misquotation|of=(correct quotation)}}

    Example: the misquoted redirect Kiss this guy employs:
    #REDIRECT [[Purple Haze]]

    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation|Kiss this guy}}
    {{R unprintworthy}}
    }}

    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation|2=printworthy}}
    {{R printworthy}}
    }}

    or use two pipes together to make an "empty" first parameter:
    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation||printworthy}}
    {{R printworthy}}
    }}

    and if applied individually:
    {{R from misquotation|2=printworthy}}or{{R from misquotation||printworthy}}

    Note 1: All redirects that are in main-article namespace (mainspace) are considered either printworthy (usable in printed versions of Wikipedia) or unprintworthy and should be tagged as one or the other. When an untagged redirect is found, please decide its printworthiness and tag it appropriately.
    Note 2: If used individually with the |of= parameter employed, and the redirect is deemed printworthy, then the second parameter must be applied as |2=printworthy in the following manner:
    {{R from misquotation|of=(correct quotation)|2=printworthy}}

    If2= is not used, then unexpected results will occur.
    Note 3: When the {{Redirect category shell}} (Rcat shell) template is used, the parameters may be added in the following manner:
    {{Rcat shell|
    {{R from misquotation|(correct quotation)|printworthy}}
    {{R printworthy}}
    }}

    Redirects from misquotations should not be directly linked, however. Pipe the title with possibilities to a disambiguated title, for example:
    • [[Jim Blythe (author)|Jim Blythe]], which appears to readers as Jim Blythe. Read Wikipedia:REDLINK to discover how important red links can be to Wikipedia. Also note that when and if an article is written on this author, the "(author)" qualifier/disambiguator might not be needed in the article's title. If it is not needed, then the redirect can be converted into the author's article.
    When tagging human name redirects and similar-type redirects, always remember to use {{code|<nowiki> when necessary to correctly sort the redirects in their categories. "Jim Blythe" would be sorted as:
    The "infared" redirect, a common misquotation of "infrared", has possibilities because "Infared" is also the name of a rapper who was featured on All the Way Up (Fat Joe and Remy Ma song).
