Hi, I'm Joe. I mainly work on articles about archaeology and biographies of scientists. I'm also an administrator on the English Wikipedia and was a member of its Arbitration Committee in 2019–2020. In my behind-the-scenes work I try to focus on preserving good content and encouraging new editors, which has led me to new page patrol, articles for deletion, and dispute resolution.
Off Wikipedia, I'm a computational archaeologist, studing the economy and human ecology of the first farming societies in prehistoric Southwest Asia. My homepage has more information about my off-wiki work.
I have two alternate accounts: Joe Roe (mobile) (talk · contribs) for when I'm travelling and Joe Robot (talk · contribs) for semi-automated edits.

Featured content and good articles I've worked on:
... that Lamia Al-Gailani Werr helped rebuild the Iraq Museum after it was looted in the 2003 American-led invasion of Iraq?
2022-08-24: The Man of the Hole, the last surviving member of a people eradicated in the genocide of indigenous peoples in Brazil, is found dead.
... that Margaret Ursula Jones directed work at Mucking, the largest archaeological excavation ever undertaken in Britain, for thirteen years, while living on site year round in a small caravan?
Articles I created or expanded from a stub. Please note that the current version might be significantly or completely different from the original version I wrote.
