The Dana/Spicer Model 60 axle is manufactured by Dana Corp. and used in OEM heavy duty applications by Chevrolet, Dodge, Chrysler, and Ford. There are rear axle and four wheel drive front steering variations of the Dana 60. It can be readily identified by it's straight axle tubes, 10 bolt asymmetrical cover, and a "60" cast in to the housing.

General Specifications

edit

Every Dana 60 that was originally manufactured by Dana Corp (ie. not aftermarket) is stamped with a build date and bill of materials on the back of the passenger-side axle tube. You can decode your bill of materials code here.

Front Axle

GM / Chevy versions are passenger side differential drop, standard rotation gears, and kingpin knuckles.

Dodge versions are passenger side differential drop, standard rotation gears, and kingpin knuckles.

Ford versions are drivers side differential drop, reverse-cut gears, and kingpin knuckles up to 1991 and balljoints from 1991 to present.

Rear Axle

The rear axle Dana 60 was first introduced in the late 50's and was common on 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups. Chrysler used Dana 60's in their big block optioned passenger cars of the late 1960s.

Ratios

edit

Aftermarket ratios are available ranging from 3.73 to 7.17.
