Hey all!
I am planning on having a WikiConference North America sports panel December 12 3:00 EST. This is something that has never been done before and there are many sports which are "native" to North America and part of the America identity. What it seems to be is that we (you, me, and other members of WikiSports) will be in a Zoom (or other video conferencing app) to discuss our experiences in editing sports on Wikipedia. These can range from combating vandalism to how to best get permission to use sports photos. The organizers of WikiConference North America (WCNA) created an Etherpad surrounding planning which I will link here. if you Command F "sports" you will find the section. This will be the very first panel WCNA has ever had on sports so not much to go off of here.

Hello there.
I created this task force banner for the women's basketball task force. I don't know if I did it correctly but I thought I should give it a try. My first attempt at creating one:
Please do give feedback if this is a good start and whether it can be adopted as this WikiProject's official task force banner (not sure how it works). Thank you. Omnis Scientia (talk) 22:08, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, so I've created a new category focused on women's basketball (Category:WikiProject Women's basketball) which has all things related to women's basketball. Included is this template and a new subcat for participants of this task force.
If this task force banner is acceptable to the current alternate being used - {{User WikiProject Basketball/Women's basketball}}, basically college basketball - then please add it to your user page. Thank you!
Hi@Omnis Scientia: thanks for creating this. I would recommend swapping the image in the banner to something that reflects more modern day WBB: is exciting, reflects diversity of the athletes, and more engaging to editors. Something like:
Hello there! I got pinged on this a few months ago. I hardly log into Wikipedia these days, so forgive me for being late on replying. It looks like you are all good on your task force banner. I was just wondering about the task force itself. I think it is great to finally have some recognizing women's basketball. There has been a WNBA task force with the NBA WikiProject for a while now Wikipedia:WikiProject National Basketball Association/WNBA task force. I am just wondering how these you WNBA task force is going to with the over on NBA.
I frankly question having the WNBA being a task force within NBA Wikipedia community help. Although it has received financial support in the past from the NBA, the WNBA has never been a part of the NBA. There are some WNBA franchises that are owned by their city NBA counterpart, but not all of them. I frankly think that it should have its own WikiProject, but I don't think the interest is there to make that a reality. I think the best course of action is have the task force within what you are creating. I just think that if we spread out the task force between two different WikiProjects it might dilute the contribution. Just my two cents. Pink Fae (talk) 19:29, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pink Fae, hello there! I think what we can do is redirect the WNBA taskforce to be joined/part of the Women's basketball taskforce. I don't know how to achieve that though. Would be open to more ideas from everyone here certainly! Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:54, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think you should have a look at Talk:Tara VanDerveer's assessment in this project. Just my opinion, but if she rates "Low-importance" in your project's importance scale, your importance scale has a problem :) --John (User:Jwy/talk) 02:11, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I had a related question and I'm not really sure the best place to ask it. I noticed in the Women's sport -- basketball --- WNBA banner shell, the WNBA task force link directs here. However, that project page seems inactive, and I've created a more up to date task list here. Also I think it makes more sense because the WNBA tab here leads to the updated task list. I was hoping we could get the link adjusted in the talk page banner shells. Does that make any sense, or should I be asking elsewhere? Swimmer33 (talk) 14:28, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've noticed that there are two project pages for the WNBA task force. One is quite inactive and I use the other one some. It might help to merge the two in order to encourage participation. Is there something official I need to do in order to open this request other than leaving a comment here? For reference:
