2024–25 UEFA Conference League
Stadion WrocławinWrocław will host the final
Tournament details
DatesQualifying:
10 July – 29 August 2024
Competition proper:
3 October 2024 – 28 May 2025
TeamsCompetition proper: 36 (from 54 associations)

2023–24

2025–26

The 2024–25 UEFA Conference League is the fourth season of the UEFA Conference League, Europe's tertiary club football tournament organised by UEFA.

This will be the first UEFA Conference League played under a new format involving a 36-team league stage.[1] The new format also does not allow teams to transfer from the Europa League to the Conference League knockout stage, and thus Conference League winners (Olympiacos in the 2023–24 edition) cannot defend their title. From this season, the competition is renamed to UEFA Conference League from the UEFA Europa Conference League.[2]

The final will be played in Stadion WrocławinWrocław, Poland.[3] The winners of the tournament will automatically qualify for the 2025–26 UEFA Europa League league stage, unless they qualify for the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League through their league performance.

Association team allocation

[edit]

A total of 164 teams from 54 of the 55 UEFA member associations are expected to participate in the 2024–25 UEFA Conference League. The association ranking based on the UEFA association coefficients is used to determine the number of participating teams for each association:[4]

Association ranking

[edit]

For the 2024–25 UEFA Conference League, the associations are allocated places according to their 2023 UEFA association coefficients, which takes into account their performance in European competitions from 2018–19 to 2022–23.[5]

Apart from the allocation based on the association coefficients, associations may have additional teams participating in the Conference League, as noted below:

Notes

  1. ^
Champions League (UCL Q1): Two of the Champions League first qualifying round losers will be drawn to receive byes to the third qualifying round (Champions Path), as two fewer losers were transferred to the second qualifying round (Champions Path), due to Champions League league phase berths vacated following the Champions League Title Holders (Real Madrid) qualifying via league position and the suspension of Russia from the 2024–25 European season.
  • ^
Albania (ALB): Skënderbeu, who finished third in the 2023–24 Kategoria Superiore, are currently banned from entering UEFA competitions. As a result, their berth in the competition was passed onto the fifth placed team, Tirana.
  • ^
Georgia (GEO): Georgian Cup winners FC Saburtalo Tbilisi changed their name to FC Iberia 1999 on 27 February 2024.
  • ^
Greece (GRE): Olympiacos qualified for the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League league phase by winning the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League, so their third place berth is vacated.
  • ^
Latvia (LVA): Valmiera, who finished 4th in the 2023 Latvian Higher League, were denied a UEFA license. As a result, their place in the competition was passed onto the 5th-placed team, Liepāja.
  • ^
Liechtenstein (LIE): The seven teams affiliated with the Liechtenstein Football Association (LFV) all play in the Swiss football league system. The only competition organised by the LFV is the Liechtenstein Football Cup – the winners of which qualify for the UEFA Conference League for the 2024–25 season.
  • ^
Lithuania (LTU): Cup winners FK TransINVEST have been granted an exception to the three year rule.[6]
  • ^
Luxembourg (LUX): Swift Hesperange, who finished second, were denied a UEFA license. Consequently, their place in the competition was passed onto the next highest-ranked team granted a UEFA licence by the FLF, UNA Strassen, who finished sixth.
  • ^
Russia (RUS): On 28 February 2022, Russian football clubs and national teams were suspended from FIFA and UEFA competitions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[7] The tables reflect Russia's ongoing suspension from UEFA competitions.[8]

    Play-off round

    [edit]

The draw for the play-off round will be held on 5 August 2024.

    Seeding

    [edit]

A total of 48 teams will play in the play-off round – 10 in the Champions Path and 38 in the Main Path. Seeding of the teams will be based on their 2024 UEFA club coefficients.[14] For the winners of the third qualifying round, whose identity will not be known at the time of the draw, the club coefficient of the highest-ranked remaining team in each tie will be used. For the losers of the Europa League third qualifying round, the club coefficient of the lower-ranked team in each tie will be used. Before the draw, UEFA may form groups of seeded and unseeded teams per the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee. The first team drawn in each tie will be the home team for the first leg.
