==Plagiarism allegations==

In 1999, Indian songwriter Joseph Mendoza recorded and sold the rights of a song named ''We Can Achieve'' to Christian record company Pauline India. The lyrics and melody of ''Achieve'' are similar to that of ''Singapore'', and Mendoza has been accused of plagiarism as a result. In response to accusations, Mendoza stated that he composed ''Achieve'' in 1983, three years before ''Singapore'' was composed. After composition, he claimed to have performed to the song in an orphanage in Mumbai. He also claimed that the original masters of the song were destroyed in the 2005 Mumbai floods. The Singapore [[Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth|Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth]] has challenged the claim, citing that ''Achieve'' "appears to have been substantially copied from ''Count on Me, Singapore''" and has requested Mendoza to provide proof. Hugh Harrison and Jeremy Monteiro, who were involved in the composition of ''Singapore'', have also disputed the claims, with Harrison threatening to sue Mendoza for libel.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Sng |first1=Suzanne |title=MCCY refutes Indian composer's Count On Me, Singapore copyright claim |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/count-on-me-singapore-embroiled-in-copyright-tussle-with-indian-version |publisher=The Straits Times |access-date=20 March 2021 |location=Singapore |date=18 March 2021}}</ref><ref>{{cite web |last1=Raguraman |first1=Anjali |title=Count On Me, Singapore copyright saga: Jeremy Monteiro was in recording studio when song was written |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/jeremy-monteiro-was-in-the-recording-studio-when-count-on-me-singapore-was |website=The Straits Times |access-date=20 March 2021 |location=Singapore |date=19 March 2021}}</ref> Mendoza retracted his claims on 18 March 2021.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Indian composer withdraws claims to Count on Me, Singapore, apologises for 'confusion caused'|url=https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/count-on-me-singapore-india-composer-mendoza-withdraws-claims-14457194|access-date=2021-04-04|website=CNA|language=en}}</ref>
