Jos Alukkas, the current Chairman of the group, set the foundation for Jos Alukkas Jewellery in the year 1964. The brand has grown from a small establishment in Kerala’s Thrissur district to a globally recognised and certified jewellery brand.

Alukkas' father, Varghese Alukkas initially started the jewellery business as a small store on High Road in [[Thrissur]], [[Kerala]], India. Jos' brother [[Joy Alukkas]] is the Chairman of Joyalukkas Group. Their brother Francis Alukkas also has a jewellery group under his name.

In 2010, the group signed [[Tamil cinema|Tamil]] actor [[Vijay (actor)|Vijay]] to be their brand ambassador for [[Kerala]] and [[Tamil Nadu]]<ref name="hindu2">{{cite web
