Linwood House was
Brothers William and Joseph Brittan emigrated from Sherborne, Dorsetshire and settled just east of Christchurch. William named his property Englefield (these days one of the oldest buildings in Christchurch) after his former residence in England.[1] For the same reason, Joseph called his property and farm Linwood after his home in Linwood, Hampshire.[2][3] Both properties fronted the Avon River.[2]
