France occasionally sent diplomatic representatives to individual states of the German Confederation such as the Grand Duchy of Baden, the Kingdom of Bavaria, the Kingdom of Hanover, the Free City of Frankfurt, the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel, the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt, Nassau, the Kingdom of Saxony and the Kingdom of Württemberg.[1][2]

Diplomatic relations between France and Germany were cut following the invasion of Poland in 1939. France restored diplomatic relations with West Germany in 1949 and with East Germany in 1973.
