The Secondary Propulsion Motor WAS snapped off...and it was ordered retracted, but we did NOT retract. Those of us in Machinery 2 Lower Level knew that we had run aground and that the SPM was, very likely not there. I personally was the senior petty officer on the scene, and I forbade the SPM operator to retract the SPM in spite of the direct orders from the CONN and Maneuvering.undo

The EPM can not be lowered and retracted as stated. The EPM is attached to the shaft and is not connected to the ship's hull. The SPM (secondary propulsion motor) is extendable and retractable through the hull. The author must have meant SPM and secondary propulsion motor.undo
