:Re Ujfalusi, it's a pity that a player with 400 league and 78 international appearances has to have so much of his WP article devoted to him mis-timing kicking Messi, but that's what happens when you pick the wrong man to kick, ask Martin Taylor; the answer is to find someone interested enough to improve the rest of the article to match. To me, that bit of the article looks OK as at your last version, it's factual, straightforward, referenced, the El País ref is one too many but it does no harm (and the picture's quite graphic). This sort of incident always attracts attention both in the media and on here, people do tend to blind revert, rather than picking out the bits they really object to, and once the novelty wears off it usually settles down. take care, Struway2 (talk) 23:05, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Fernando Martínez Perales
Hi Vasco. We really need to work together to improve Fernando Martínez Perales, but we're going to have to talk to each other to do so. Most of my changes addressed legitimate problems with the article's grammar and syntax, so I felt that your reversion was a little heavy-handed. I honestly have no problem with your tinkering with the article's text, but you have to allow others to fix any problems that might arise from that. Your reversion and compromise solution have, in effect, restored multiple problems to the article. My copyedit did not materially alter the article's content, it just tidied it up, so I would like to restore it, and you can then make any changes that you feel are necessary. Please let me know if you have any alternative solutions. Best wishes, Rje (talk) 00:01, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hi there Vasco, glad to here that you've decided to become a full-time registered WikiEditor, and as you correctly say then every edit you make under your name will add up. Here's my advice about what to do next:

 1. Edit your user page (User:NothingButAGoodNothing) with some brief biographical details about yourself - who you are, where you're from, what you like etc. Have a look at my page for some help.
 2. If you want to join WP:FOOTBALL then please simply add yourself to the list of participants. When joining the project, you should watch the WP:FOOTBALL page. This allows you to keep up-to-date with discussions about the project on the talk page. Then simply get editing, and take part in discussions about the wonderful world of football.

Happy editing! Kind regards, GiantSnowman 23:28, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again, I've created you a basic userpage, hope it looks OK! Thanks, GiantSnowman 14:29, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting vandals

Hi Vasco. It's nothing you've done wrong, and it's nothing against you at all - so don't worry. The best place to report persistent vandals of pages is at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Hope this helps! GiantSnowman 23:42, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Hello. I think you can read Wikipedia:Vandalism, particularly the section How to respond to vandalism, and see what you can do.

Another way, since the pages are football-related, is to go to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football and raise the issue there. Just point out that this vandal, using different IP addresses, has continously been putting false information on pages of AEK Athens players. There should be a few administrators out there who can help you with the problem.

Hope this helps! Chanheigeorge (talk) 03:37, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re:pedido

claro, é simples, basta incluires o código nome do template na tua mensagem.

:) --Waldir talk 22:15, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Certo! Obrigado, e para ti também ;) --Waldir talk 23:51, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Héctor Berenguel

Hi Vasco, getting rid of duplicate articles is quite easy. All you havr to do is edit the article you DON'T want, and redirect it to the article you DO want, with something like this:

#REDIRECT Héctor Berenguel

Any more questions then just ask! Thanks, GiantSnowman 09:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AIV reporting

Hi Vasco, now that you seem to be coming across edit of and being the target of more and more vandals it becomes important that your events are dealt with by a number of different administrators and that records of these events are kept in a more centralised location. To assist could you please make all future reports of vandals at this page. You'll note that there is a very precise reporting method which must be followed and that your report will be dealt with (usually) at a very fast pace. Of course I may be one of the admins that also deal with your reports there. With thanks and good luck --VirtualSteve need admin support? 21:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your questions to me

Hi, first don't give up on trying to put your edits in at Death of Baby P. The problem I saw, this is trying to remember from off the top of my head so apologies in advance, is mostly concerns with Biographies of a living person With articles about people the rules are real strict for obvious reasons. With the horrendous nature of this crime it has brought out a lot of emotions in some people too which makes me maybe a little too cautious. I took a quick glance at what I reverted and maybe I was incorrect about doing a complete reverse, I'm not sure. I recently had surgery on my spine so I am having a bit of trouble focusing my thoughts so I do apologise for that. There is nothing at all for you to apologize for though. May I suggest you rereading what you put in and taking the simplier things you said you did and readd them. I found that the tone of how you were commenting on the people who did the crime was too strong. Now I could be wrong about this and wouldn't mind at all if you asked someone else to take a look. I am just slowly coming back to editing but with the pain meds, physical therapy I tire real easy which makes it easier for me to make an error. If you would like in the morning I will relook at what you put into the article and see what it was, I just can't right now. I hope you understand. But mainly, don't worry about this. Everything can be reverted so be bold. Happy editing, --CrohnieGalTalk 16:15, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just want to let you know that it was my mistake not yours. I had an editor I trust check my revert of yours and for the most part your additions were good and I shouldn't have reverted. Please except my apologies for this error. You can see what was said about your edits on my talk page by User:Wildhartlivie. Thank you in advance, --CrohnieGalTalk 09:00, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Sorry, dude, I do respect other authors!

Everytime I see "2009—"inAlípio's career box, I think that you mean Aug./Sep. 2009 to the present!! And at the same time, everytime I see "2009", I think it means that he only played the second half of the 2008-09 season!! I also presume that years meant a specific season like 2008-09. I believe that his year should be 02/09 like the yearly players' stats in KICKERS to indicate a player was brought in during the winter transfer. The PTBs at wikipedia think that could be read in the article which is my exactly point when I put "2008-09"; you can read the article and know that he played in the second half of the season!! Anyways, this was an attempt to explain that there was no malice or lack of respect, just a view of how I saw the "box". Raul17 (talk) 22:56, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand the rational. Thanks for the kind words! Raul17 (talk) 19:21, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Anon user

Hi Vasco. Please don't be rush, he has done a great job in categorizing thus far. It seems that he is just a newbie and does not understand how Wikipedia works. Probably he doesn't even know about page's histories, so he can't see the reasons for your revertions. I'm sure we've all been there at the beginning, editing oblivious to the fact that others were there editing too. Lets assume good faith and keep talking to him in Spanish (many users, like me, prefer editing here than on the Spanish wiki, despite our limited English skills, because this version is simply better).

Regarding the article per se I've found three sources ([1] [2] and this last one is Valladolid's official website) that say he's played in the Chilean Colo-Colo. They may be wrong, repeating maybe false information that they've found in Wikipedia. But the anon user has a solid reason to believe his edit is correct. Regards. Fache (talk) 16:07, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The English site is better. Especially in regards to editing football pages! Raul17 (talk) 19:21, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Jajaja that John Paul Ruiz really cracked me up, and when you find it! Thanks for your words regarding my English skills, but en-2 is my real level. I just double and triple check everything I write and always have Word References on another tab ready to help.
The reason why the English wiki is better than, say, the Spanish is probably too complex for us to discover in a short exchange. Still, I remember that during my active period on es-wiki (around 6 months, 3 years ago) there were some issues that disincentived the editing of football articles:
 1. There was debate on wether to include or not current squads on the clubs.
 2. There was debate on wether to allow or not articles about single seasons (e.g. 2010–11 La Liga)
 3. There was no WP:ATHLETE so notability was decided on a case-by-case method. Therefore I remember the deletion of Santiago Silva, José Sand and Marcos Tébar, for example, Álvaro Negredo and Jesús Arellano were also listed for deletion. While, on the other hand, Marcelo Burzac, with no professional games whatsoever, survived.
 4. Navigational boxes were and are strictly prohibited, so no FC Barcelona squad whatsoever.
 5. Lists were considered un-encyclopedic, meaning great articles like this one would've been deleted without further discussion.
 6. The infobox for footballers was, and is, really basic.
Well, I don't know why I used your talk page to express my frustration with my native language's Wiki, but thanks for listening anyway. You too have a nice week. Regards. Fache (talk) 23:15, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FLC needing reviews

HOLA VASCO, Sandman here. I have a new FLC which is a List of FC Barcelona records and statistics. Would you like to review it? It needs more review as it is, because its quite long a lot of people is put off. Nomination is at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of FC Barcelona records and statistics/archive1. Nélson Oliveira

Boas Vasco!

Cumprimentos! —Preceding unsigned comment added by P3DRO (talkcontribs) 19:03, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive edit summaries

Vasco, your edit summaries are really troubling to me. This is becoming a problem as they are purely disruptive and I'm afraid it encourages a sense of animosity around here. Simply looking at your contribs confirm this. Can you please tone it down? Even if some people are misinformed, you can logically make your case without getting stressed out. In fact, you make your point stronger without the use of caps, !!! or ?!!?. Please stop this. Thank you Tommy! [message] 04:38, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand it can be stressful. However it seems you may be going about this the wrong way. Most people are here to help, some are misinformed, others just feel obliged to put whatever they want. Others are just here to intentionally cause trouble. It's hard to know exactly which one of the above everyone falls into, which is why we have templates. However, I frequently see your name come up with excessive ! or ?. It can encourage trolling (I'm not perfect) as well as frighten new users. I am in contact with NW somewhat frequently and will inquire to him if I see fit. No one doubts you are here to help, but the excessive punct marks is not necessary. Keep up the good work yourself. Tommy! [message] 17:52, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vasco,

You mentioned socks regarding this user at ANI. I've now indef blocked the account; please let me know if you see any obvious socks editing while it is blocked. Cheers. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward: not at work) - talk 01:34, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vasco, what do you think of Arbero (talk · contribs)'s edits? I saw that you messaged the editor last May, and he apparently removed the message. His contributions seem a little suspect to me, but I'm not sure. For example, he tried to put "Germany" as a country for Fight Club as seen here, which is similar to what Zombie433 tried to do here. I've never seen another German-related edit to that film article. Erik (talk | contribs) 11:39, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My behavior

Hi VASCO!

This might be late, but I have not replyed to your comment for months. I've been thinking about what you said. I know I was wrong, and that I accept your opinion. I was only trying to help the articles, but instead became a bit too selfish and ignored. I should have listened to you. Again, I will try to listen. After you have read this, I hope we can have a better relationship in the future. Thanks for listening, and have a good day! :). --Arbero 31 August 2010, 18:39.

By the way, I have restored the messages, not deleted them as Erik here above said.

September 2010

Of course it isn't a question of "unnecessary" or "necessary". That response was a last resort since we had a similar conversation regarding this issue awhile ago (remember "plays for Real Madrid C.F." / "plays for Real Madrid"). As I said, in French sporting circles, clubs are identified by the city they are situated in since most external viewers of French football may find it difficult knowing where clubs such as Olympique Lyonnais, Club Français, Racing Club de France, etc. are located.

As for the "Spanish top division debut" insertion, you can change it back if you want to since you provided an explanation. I was just confused as to why you put "Spanish top division debut", when La Liga would of been simpler.

And FYI, João is my nickname since I have Portuguese roots through my father. Later. — Joao10Siamun (talk) 17:37, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

José Dominguez

Hello Vasco. Can you explain what was wrong with this edit by an anonymous editor that made you use such an aggressive edit summary? Struway2 (talk) 19:05, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at the edit history, which you clearly haven't done. The anon removed nothing. They added about seven words, namely "After he played in A. D. Fafe and then ", i.e. added mention of another club which was missing from the article. This was a constructive contribution to the article, and a correct edit, as confirmed in this interview, which I'm sure you can read better than I can.
I'm sorry, but this keeps happening. If editors vandalise - and that means vandalism, not just changing something you've written - then go through the proper procedures to warn and eventually report them. Personal abuse isn't acceptable. Personal abuse, as here, directed at someone who actually improved an article by their contribution, is out of control. Maybe you should walk away for a bit, if the stress is getting to you too much. But with regret, if I see personal abuse in an edit summary once more, I'll have to report it at WP:ANI. Struway2 (talk) 07:51, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Vasco. If people come to your talk page and give you abuse, then it's wrong, and you'd be correct to give them a warning, and to report them if it continues. Don't suppose it helps to tell you that it's happened to all of us at one time or another, and it isn't nice, but all they're proving is that they don't know how to behave properly. What is nice, is to be appreciated, and we're lucky to have editors on the English WP with your ability and enthusiasm to read sources in a variety of languages and use them to improve pages on subjects that are less accessible to those of us who only read English.

Another thing that happens to some of us, certainly me included, is that we do sometimes let stuff get to us. It's easier said than done, but try and remember it really isn't that important. When dealing with vandalism, first make sure it really is vandalism: someone changing the writing style, removing unsourced apparently POV sentences, or removing FC's and C.D.'s from the prose, for instance, isn't usually vandalism. Then just revert it, put "rvv" (for "reverting vandalism") in your edit summary, and if it you think it warrants it, add a suitable warning message to the vandalising editor's talk page. I see higher up this talk page that User:Tommy2010 offered you help/advice; he(?) does a lot of work in dealing with vandalism, so you could do worse than taking him up on his offer.

Another thing you might consider is, in your edit summaries, just put what you've done: "expand Benfica section", "remove unsourced", "update for joining Porto", without commenting on what the article was like before.

As to Dominguez, does the bit in the interview "acabaria por ser emprestado ao Sintrense e mais tarde ao Fafe" (last paragraph before the «Baixinhos» famosos section) not mean something like "ended up on loan at Sintrense and later at Fafe"?

take care, Struway2 (talk) 08:21, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please watch your tone. Your edit summary here 3 is unacceptable. Active Banana ( bananaphone 19:39, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Link deletion

They were all either expired links (meaning incorrect URL's or deleted pages) and/or featured no information of any relevance. No doubt their initial inclusion was necessary and fruitful, but in these particular cases (the case of Dorado and Israel) they were either of no use, deleted, or pages were a duplication of information already featured on the Wiki page. I do take on your note that links to the Official Betis page are somewhat unnecessary. I just felt linking such a website would allow a user to search within that website for information pertaining to the player. Sorry if you thought I was damaging your work. --12 Major Chords (talk) 18:22, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I must say this now before it slips my mind: your edit summaries are hostile, unimpressive, and insulting to those who put work in before you. An article that wasn't in existence until I put it together is lambasted by you in an entirely inconsiderate fashion. "Composed HORRIBLE and APPALLING display of article..." Superfluous adjectives to be sure, but these articles are forever to be improved upon. It's not in keeping with your aesthetics, then so what? Edit it. Improve it. I implore such actions, but then keep quiet and continue with your work. To attack the previous individual who put such effort, to constantly summarise edits in this way is upsetting, I must admit. --12 Major Chords (talk) 17:04, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Resposta

RE: Club name(s) (RM Castilla)

Sorry mate, i was getting order to my ideas. I understand your point, but i disagree with it. It's true that 'Real Madrid B' was the name of the team many years ago, but that has changed, and I like to promote it's real name, 'Real Madrid Castilla'. I saw something similar with FC Barcelona B in past seasons, their name was Barcelona Athlétic and wasn't correct refer to them as "Barça B". You wrote your reasons saying "quick info (so the people know it's the reserve side)". True, but if people go to Real Madrid Castilla page, in the first paragraph it's really clear that situation. And the box compression, it really doesn't make a difference, even the lines and the text in the article remains exactly equal. I really don't want to make a big discussion about this hehe, but that's my point, 'Real Madrid B' is not the name of the team and shouldn't be listed as that. Less in Wikipedia. Be good. XavierHD (talk) 17:12, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but I recalled that Real Madrid used RM Castilla as a shortened name for Real Madrid Castilla when it was announced that the Castilla name was approved by the Rfef for use. I am history freak so I like to use Real Madrid B when players played when the reserve team was called that and use Real Madrid Castilla or RM Castilla to emphasize that a player played on the reserve team in any season after 2005. Players like Rubén de la Red, Esteban Granero and Javi García, I would have entries for Real Madrid B up to 2004-05 and Real Madrid Castilla or now RM Castilla form 2005- to present eventhough the club are one and the same (which more likely means I will be some edit wars). In player capsules (aka profiles), I would use RM Castilla and not Castilla if space is being considered.Raul17 (talk) 23:10, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bits and pieces

Hello Vasco. You'll be pleased to know I have no problem whatsoever with your rewording in Míchel :-) Couple other general things may be of interest:

a literate native writer of English wouldn't put a comma in a sentence like "Fred Smith plays for Template FC, as a forward";
if a player's full name is known and reliably sourced, it belongs in the infobox whether it's the same as his player name or not. That way the reader can tell that John Smith's full name actually is John Smith and it's not just that Wikipedia hasn't found out his full name yet.

The link to reprezentacija.rs in the lead section of Nikola Žigić is there specifically as one of two reliable sources for his unusual height, as referred to in the hidden note to editors wanting to exaggerate it, of which there have been one or two... so it's going back in. It has the added advantage of being a reliable source for his personal details (date and place of birth, previous employers etc) which is a good thing from the WP:BLP point of view. take care, Struway2 (talk) 17:59, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The reader shouldn't have to guess where information presented in an article comes from. If the facts used to create the article depend on a particular link, that link should appear either inline in the body of the article or in the References section as a general reference: see WP:EL#References and citation. Doesn't mean we have to go over the top and add a source to every sentence, but personal information about living people should be referenced explicitly. As to Zigic's height, two reliable sources giving the same figure ought to be enough to discourage editors wanting to change it because they've read on a fansite that he's 6 ft 8 or 203cm or whatever. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:54, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FL Review

Hiya, could you have a quick check at this? It's growing a bit stale with only one support and no quibbles for 20 days. Cheerio, Sandman888 (talk) 21:38, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Calm down

young man, itreally isn't that important ;-) Matter of interest, what's the phrase "after two meaningless seasons with CP Mérida" intended to mean? if something like "after two seasons with CP Mérida in which he rarely/only once/never played for the first team", you might do better saying so, to avoid it being removed for looking like someone's unsourced personal opinion. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:05, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re Ujfalusi, it's a pity that a player with 400 league and 78 international appearances has to have so much of his WP article devoted to him mis-timing kicking Messi, but that's what happens when you pick the wrong man to kick, ask Martin Taylor; the answer is to find someone interested enough to improve the rest of the article to match. To me, that bit of the article looks OK as at your last version, it's factual, straightforward, referenced, the El País ref is one too many but it does no harm (and the picture's quite graphic). This sort of incident always attracts attention both in the media and on here, people do tend to blind revert, rather than picking out the bits they really object to, and once the novelty wears off it usually settles down. take care, Struway2 (talk) 23:05, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Best wishes, Rje (talk) 00:01, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
