== Need help with an editnotice ==

I have several large books from Dark Horse on The Legend of Zelda I'd like to use as sources for an article. The problem is, there are several authors, and the translator has some credit for some reason. How do I format this? [[User:Blitzfan51|<span style="color:grey">Blitzfan51</span>]] [[User talk:Blitzfan51|<span style="color:blue">speak to the manager</span>]] 01:00, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

:{{re|Blitzfan51}} Create a sandbox at e.g. [[User:Blitzfan51/cite book sandbox]]. In that sandbox, experiment with {{tlx|Cite book}}, after reading its documentation. If you are not happy with your result, come back here and we can try to help. Worst case: we can help you extend your "cite book" ref with non-templated additional text. -[[User:Arch dude|Arch dude]] ([[User talk:Arch dude|talk]]) 02:35, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

::Hello, {{u|Blitzfan51}}. If you read the documentation of [[Template:Cite book]], you will see that adding fields to the template for multiple authors and translators can be done quite easily. Another issue is whether books published by this comic book publisher are reliable sources for a video game franchise. Since my active knowledge of comic books and video games ended decades ago, I have no opinion on reliability but advise a cautious assessment. == Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company ==

I just found out that you can't style something in userspace as a mainspace article, but for just over a week I've had the first line of my user page styled as if it were the opening sentence to an article, then after that it continues in a more typical style of writing for a user page.

Should I edit my user page to remove this? Or does it not break the rules. [[User:Theooolone|Theooolone]] ([[User talk:Theooolone|talk]]) 12:54, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

:Your fine. The purpose behind the policy is to stop people putting a Wikipedia page in userspace and treating it as if it were an actual article. Hello. Is it permissible to add multiple infoboxes in the same article; I mean, for example, in an article of military campaigns, several conflicts can be occurred. Should we add use a single infobox (in the lead) or, can we use seperate infoboxes wrt the events (in the section). ::Thankyou. But I have one more question. Can we add infoboxes for very less significant events, which was the part of the main event? Like, battles within the wars? [[User:ImperialAficionado|<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color:Purple;">Imperial</span>]][[User talk:ImperialAficionado|<span style="font-family: 'Garamond'; color:Darkblue;"><nowiki>[AFCND]</nowiki></span>]] 13:57, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

:::Let me show an example; I have created [[Ghaznavid campaigns in India]]. In that article, I have added 20+ military conflicts. Can I add infoboxes for all of them? [[User:ImperialAficionado|<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color:Purple;">Imperial</span>]][[User talk:ImperialAficionado|<span style="font-family: 'Garamond'; color:Darkblue;"><nowiki>[AFCND]</nowiki></span>]] 13:59, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

::::@[[User:ImperialAficionado|ImperialAficionado]]: I think three infoboxes max would be reasonable, 20+ would be overkill. If the reader wants to know more about the specific battle, they would just go to its article (following the internal link) which contains its own infobox. [[User:Deltaspace42|'''<span style="color:orange">Delta</span>'''<span style="color:green">space</span>42]] ([[User talk:Deltaspace42|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Deltaspace42|contribs]]) 14:03, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::But there is a problem too. There is a problem that most of the battles don't have seperate articles. Inorder to avoid the creation of articles that fails [[Wikipedia:Notability|GNG]], we adds that into the parent article. But yes. I got it. Creating infoboxes for all will be a real mess. == Address on Wikipedia article ==

:Wikipedia's article entitled "Douglas Pitt" was deleted, as you say, for being unambiguous advertising.

I have adjusted the address on Wikipedia article, however, the map is still showing the outdated one. I have also adjusted address on OpenStreetMap, but nothing changes. What should I do? [[User:EFIEDUCATION|EFIEDUCATION]] ([[User talk:EFIEDUCATION|talk]]) 11:17, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

:It sounds as it, like many people, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is.

:Based on the OP's previous post, this relates to the [[Fashion Retail Academy]] article. [[User:TSventon|TSventon]] ([[User talk:TSventon|talk]]) 11:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

:''If'' you meet Wikipedia's criteria for [[WP:notability|notability]] - which generally means that there is enough independent material published about you to base an article on - then there could be an article about you. It would not be "your site", it would not be under your control, and it would not necessarily say what you wanted it to say. (See [[WP:an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing|an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing]]).

:[[User:EFIEDUCATION|EFIEDUCATION]] address and geo coordinates have to be changed separately. You can look up an online address-to-geo coord converter, put in the new address, and put the correct coordinates into [[wikidata:Q24022950|Fashion Retail Academy]]'s [[Wikidata]] entry. [[User:Sungodtemple|Sungodtemple]] ([[User talk:Sungodtemple|talk]] &#8226; [[Special:Contributions/Sungodtemple|contribs]]) 13:15, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

:It should be based almost 100% on what those [[WP:42|independent reliable sources]] have published about you, not on what you or your associates say or want to say. It should preferably not be written by you or your associates, though this is not absolutely forbidden.

:If you do not meet the criteria for notability - like most of us - then there cannot be an article about you. [[User:ColinFine|ColinFine]] ([[User talk:ColinFine|talk]]) 18:58, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

::Never mind. Someone already updated the Wikidata entry. The article is still confused though - interestingly enough, the map is centered on the wrong location but has the marker in the correct spot. [[User:Sungodtemple|Sungodtemple]] ([[User talk:Sungodtemple|talk]] &#8226; [[Special:Contributions/Sungodtemple|contribs]]) 13:23, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

:::{{ping|Sungodtemple}} The centering of the map was based on the coordinates in Wikidata, which were for the previous location. I've changed them, and the map is now properly centered. [[User:Deor|Deor]] ([[User talk:Deor|talk]]) 15:56, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

::::{{ping|EFIEDUCATION}}{{ping|Sungodtemple}} OK, I was confused, since the [[Fashion Retail Academy]] article itself still had the coordinates of the former location. I've emended them and undone my Wikidata change, so now the map is showing the correct location (though still uncentered, since it is trying to include both the old location and the new one). Perhaps the centering issue is a caching problem that will be cleared up in time. [[User:Deor|Deor]] ([[User talk:Deor|talk]]) 16:39, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi! Im a member of the WikiProject Dubai and im super confused if an article about its bus services exist or not as the other emirates in the country such as Abu Dhabi have it while Dubai doesnt. And im pretty sure it will be a sub article for the RTA Dubai. So should it exist or not? [[User:ThatOneFilipinoExtremeist|ThatOneFilipinoExtremeist]] ([[User talk:ThatOneFilipinoExtremeist|talk]]) 20:05, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

:Please post your suggestion on the talk page [[Talk:Dashavatara]]. Balarama is mentioned several times in that article, as well as Gautama, so I cannot tell what change you are suggesting: please be clearer. [[User:ColinFine|ColinFine]] ([[User talk:ColinFine|talk]]) 15:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

:There are generally three reasons why an article doesn't exist:

:# Nobody has written it yet

:# An article did exist, but has been deleted

:# The subject does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for [[WP:notability|notability]].

:(More than one of the above can apply).

:If you think that "bus services in Dubai" has enough sources that it is Wikipedia-notable, then you're welcome to create it. (But I notice that you have not so far created any articles, so I strongly advise that you use the [[WP:articles for creation|articles for creation]] system, and make a careful study of [[WP:your first article|your first article]] before you try). [[User:ColinFine|ColinFine]] ([[User talk:ColinFine|talk]]) 21:23, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

== How can I find an image for the Nazca Ridge MPA for my draft? ==

Hello, I'm currently making a draft on the [[Draft:Fishing industry in Peru|fishing industry in Peru]] and tried to search Wikimedia commons for images on the [https://mpatlas.org/zones/68819721/ Nazca Ridge MPA]. However, I only really found images on the Nazca Ridge itself and have fallen back on that, however, it's not nearly as informative as having an image of the actual reserve. I've found images online, such as [https://news.mongabay.com/2021/09/marine-experts-flag-new-peru-marine-reserve-that-allows-industrial-fishing/ this] and [https://www.instagram.com/p/B9aNmPKley1/ this], however, I'm not sure of their copyright protections. :{{re|SonOfYoutubers}} You might try a friendly e-mail to the folks who run the organization. Explain how Commons copyright works and request that one of them upload a properly-licensed picture. :::{{re|SonOfYoutubers}} Yes, you may create a map, but you must not incorporate any "creative element" from any copyrighted sources. This should not be a problem. I know the last page in the A-Z Index is humorous.

What is the next-to-the-last page? [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 00:43, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:{{ping|Ifyoucrydon'tlose}} It isn't clear what you're referring to – as far as I can tell the last page in the A-Z index is {{no redirect|􏿿}} (see [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AllPages?from=%F4%8F%BF%BF&to=&namespace=0]). [[User:Tollens|Tollens]] ([[User talk:Tollens|talk]]) 01:01, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::There is a Wikipedia page called 'All pages'. On that page you'll see the word 'starting' and the word 'ending'. My question is what is the ending page, the last page in the alphabetical list of Wikipedia pages? [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 01:13, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::{{ping|Ifyoucrydon'tlose}} Ah – in that case it would be {{no redirect|􏿿}} as above. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AllPages?from=%F4%8F%BF%BF&to=&namespace=0 This link] goes to its position in [[Special:AllPages]]; you can see that it is last in the list. [[User:Tollens|Tollens]] ([[User talk:Tollens|talk]]) 01:17, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::I have two problems with that character. First if I put that character into Special:AllPages 'Display pages ending at:' and click to 'Go' button it shows a long list below of articles which apparently follow that symbol.

::::The second problem is that when I type that symbol into the search box of Wikipedia, it takes me to a page 'Universal Character Set characters', certainly not the ending page. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 01:26, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::Let me rephrase my request: I would like to see an alphabetical list of all the articles in Wikipedia and be able to go to the end of that list to see the last article in the list. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 02:00, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::@[[User:Ifyoucrydon'tlose|Ifyoucrydon'tlose]], this depends on how you organize articles that don't start with letters. If you only include pages starting with the letters a-z, the last would be the redirect [[ZZZZZZ]], and the second to last would be the article [[ZZZZZ]]. [[User:LittlePuppers|LittlePuppers]] ([[User talk:LittlePuppers|talk]]) 02:14, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::::The problem I'm having is that I'm unable to browse articles in alphabetical order. In a print encyclopedia one can browse articles this way by turning pages. Apparently one can't do that with Wikipedia. On any given page there is no 'Previous article' or 'Next article' button. And I'm surprised that there is no alphabetical list of articles. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 02:37, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::::I paged back from the end and found [[Ỹaroamë language]], which is the last article beginning with a Latin letter plus a diacritic before the Greek letters start. [[User:TSventon|TSventon]] ([[User talk:TSventon|talk]]) 02:51, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::::::Thank you. My understanding is that Wikipedia uses Unicode to alphabetize symbols. I'm interesting in browsing all the articles including those starting with various Unicode symbols. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 02:55, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::::::The thing is that (as far as I know) there's not always a clear way to alphabetize all of Unicode - [[alphabetize|alphabetizing]] is, by nature, a way of ordering an alphabet, and Unicode has, well, quite a few alphabets. (The other major difference is that, unlike a physical encyclopedia, Wikipedia has [[WP:SV|several thousand volumes]] worth of text, and a table of contents alone could take upwards of a hundred - which in combination with having other ways to search it, perhaps explains why this mode of navigating hasn't been prioritized much.)

::::::::::Ỹ is near the end of the "Latin extended additional" block of Unicode, which precedes the "Greek Extended" block. (See [[Unicode block#List of blocks]].) [[User:LittlePuppers|LittlePuppers]] ([[User talk:LittlePuppers|talk]]) 03:08, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::The reason you would see a long list of articles there is that you're putting the character in the wrong box – if you display pages <u>ending</u> with that character there would of course be every single Wikipedia page before it. If you <u>start</u> at the character it is the only one in the list as no pages come after it. [[Special:AllPages]] is the alphabetical list you're asking for – you can flip forward using the "Next page" button at the top of the list, and view articles starting with arbitrary Unicode (if they exist) by placing the character in the "Display pages starting at" box. In terms of the fact that you do not end up on a page with the character I provided: this is because that page is a redirect. I am not aware of a way to search for the last alphabetical non-redirect page, though. [[User:Tollens|Tollens]] ([[User talk:Tollens|talk]]) 07:38, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::Thank you. I realize now that I need to put that character in the 'starting' box. It does appear to be at the end of 'All pages'. The list at 'All pages' is huge. It is like an index. I'm interested in a much shorter list: a list of articles. It can be alphabetized in the same way as the pages. What's strange about 'All pages' is that there is a box 'Namespace' which has the word '(Article)' in it, but the list below is 'All pages'. I just want to see articles.

::::::I have a second problem now: Wikipedia refuses to let me log in on my other computer. It knows me by my previous username, indexguy. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 12:17, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::::I believe I have discovered the answer: If you go to Special:AllPages and enter a randon article name like 'Flat Feet' in the 'starting' box, you have all kinds of entries below. I noticed that many entries are in italics. I figured out that an entry in italics is an entry that redirects to an article. If an entry is not in italics, then that is an article. The next article after 'Flat Feet' is 'Flat Fell', then 'Flat Fire'. Wikipedia needs to alert readers to this distinction. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 12:30, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::::You can customise how redirects are displayed, see [[Wikipedia:Visualizing redirects]], but I haven't tried it myself. [[User:TSventon|TSventon]] ([[User talk:TSventon|talk]]) 12:37, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::::::{{ping|Ifyoucrydon'tlose}} As you said, [[Special:Allpages]] already visualizes redirects by displaying them in italics. The "Display pages ending at" box is meant to be used together with "Display pages starting at". Otherwise it starts at the beginning of all pages. [[􏿿]] is the last stored page name but it's a redirect as mentioned. Our MediaWiki software implements redirects by creating a page with special code so there ''is'' a page called {{no redirect|􏿿}} (click to see the page). Whether it would appear at the end of a printed Wikipedia depends on whether it would include redirects. [[Special:Allpages]] ends with a lot of redirects on special characters. The last non-redirect ''may'' be [[𝼝]]. I haven't fully checked that all the thousands of following pages are redirects. [[User:PrimeHunter|PrimeHunter]] ([[User talk:PrimeHunter|talk]]) 19:57, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::::::{{ping|Ifyoucrydon'tlose}} If you save <code>.allpagesredirect {display:none;}</code> in {{yourcss}} then redirects are hidden at [[Special:Allpages]]. I did this and found that [[𝼝]] is indeed the last "real" article. There are several non-redirect pages after it on icons but they are all pages like [[🥺]] which is the last. They technically count as article pages even though they say "Wikipedia does not have an article ..." [[User:PrimeHunter|PrimeHunter]] ([[User talk:PrimeHunter|talk]]) 20:25, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::::::::I have created [[Help:AllPages]] and linked it at top of [[Special:AllPages]] by creating the interface message [[MediaWiki:Allpages-summary]]. "Redirects are shown in ''italics''" seems critical so I included it directly in the message. [[User:PrimeHunter|PrimeHunter]] ([[User talk:PrimeHunter|talk]]) 22:14, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

::::::::::::Thank you for adding that line to the top of Special:AllPages. [[User:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose]] ([[User talk:Ifyoucrydon&#39;tlose|talk]]) 22:44, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

== On a list of episodes, do I need to cite a reference to show that every episode exists? ==

:Hello, TrinbagoianNetwork. Many people who try the challenging task of creating a new article without spending a considerable time learning how Wikipedia works and how to interact with other editors, have a frustrating and miserable experience. I always advise new editors to not even think about creating a new article until they have spent at least a few weeks making improvements to existing articles, and learning about such core concepts as [[WP:verifiability|verifiability]], [[WP:reliable sources|reliable sources]], [[WP:neutral point of view|neutral point of view]], and [[WP:notability|notability]].

:Once they have an understanding of those ideas, then is the time to read [[WP:your first article|your first article]] carefully, and start looking for the [[WP:42|reliable independent sources|]] without which an article is impossible. :{{ping|Dupont Circle}} The references are good. They reference the whole row so they can be placed in a Ref column like [[Pokémon Go live events#Community Days]]. Interested readers can also find additional information about the episode in the reference. I would reduce repetition by omitting <code>website=BBC Genome Project</code> after the first reference when there is already <code>publisher=BBC</code> in every reference. After looking around, I would actually reduce the workload by just using https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006sf81/episodes/guide as a reference for the whole table. I haven't seen it documented in our guidelines but it's common to just write <code><nowiki>Source: <ref>...</ref></nowiki></code> above or below a table if the ref covers almost everything. The dates can be found by clicking the episode in the ref. That's good enough. Adding individual references with direct links in each row is better but a lot of work for an article with uncontroversial content and three daily page views. I wouldn't remove the existing row references when the work has already been done. [[User:PrimeHunter|PrimeHunter]] ([[User talk:PrimeHunter|talk]]) 13:47, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

== Sorting categories ==

== Draft review ==

Hi, I've created a new category: Category:Attorneys General of Canada East, Province of Canada. I've linked it to a parent category: Category:British colonial attorneys general in the Americas. That part is working. However, it's sorting in the "British colonial attorneys general" under the "A" section, for "Attorney General". I'd like it to sort under the "C" section, for "Canada East". All of the other categories sort by jurisdiction, but I can't figure out how to do that. <nowiki>The article 'Dorset County Museum' has a redirect to it from 'Dorset Museum'. The museum has recently renamed itself as Dorset Museum, as documented and referenced in the article. Could someone technically competent please swap (move) the two pages, so that the main article is 'Dorset Museum', with a redirect to it from 'Dorset County Museum'? == Alter an entry ==

:Hello. The article [[Downtown Community School]] is in poor condition, probably because it closed down 53 years ago, and few people care about it now. As for alumni, [[Richard Kostelanetz]] is the first one mentioned, but no reference to a reliable source is given, and his own biography article does not mention that he attended the school. That is not good at all. The relevant policy is verifiability. My opinion, which is widely shared, is that only alumni who are the subjects of Wikipedia articles should be included as alumni, and it us not the role of an individual Wikipedia editor to decide that some person is "prominent". So, if you want to add alumni, I recommend that you limit yourself to those who already have Wikipedia biographies that verify that the people in question attended the Downtown Community School. Hello, after reviewing [[WP:CITENEED]] I have a question: under what circumstances is it acceptable to simply delete a citation needed template, rather than searching for a source for the statement? :Hello, Addmorefueltothefire, and welcome to the Teahouse, and to Wikipedia.

:I would '''very strongly advise against''' doing this, for several reasons.

:First, creating a new article, even on an uncontroversial topic, is much more challenging than most new editors imagine, and where people try to do so without first spending some weeks or months practising editing Wikipedia and learning how Wikipedia works, they usually have a frustrating and disappointing time, and often do not succeed in creating an article at all. With a possibly controversial topic, this can be even worse.

:Secondly, Claudine has drawn your attention to the special concerns for writing about people accused of crimes.

:Thirdly, your language above, together with your chosen account name, make me think that you have strong opinions about this person's guilt, one way or another. Do we ask them to condense the article dramatically, or delete them since there is no way to get sources? == Fault in a 'Help' page (non-working video tutorial) ==

Is there a way to watch the recent changes made on articles under the scope of a certain wikiproject?

What are the best places to report faults? In this case, the fault is with a video tutorial on the following 'Help' page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Sandbox_tutorial) with the video failing to play. I've checked the page for the video file at Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tutorial_on_starting_a_sandbox_article_on_Wikipedia.ogv) & attempting to play the video there produces the following error message "No compatible source was found for this media.". :Hi @[[User:Jethrob101|Jethrob101]]. Writing a Wikipedia article from scratch is a very difficult undertaking. :Hello, Jethrob101. Your choice of words "set up a page for" suggests that, like many people, you misunderstand what Wikipedia is and how it works.

:''If your project has already been written about'' by several [[WP:42|independent, reliable sources]], then Wikipedia could have an article about it, based almost entirely on what those independent sources say, not on what the project itself says or wants to say. You and your colleagues are discouraged from writing this article, but not forbidden.

:If an article is accepted into the encyclopaedia, whoever writes it, it will not be owned or controlled by your or your project, and it will not necessarily say what you would like it to say. Your role will be limited to suggesting edits, which should be backed up by independent published sources. [[WP:NOTPROMO|promotion]] of any sort (a.k.a. "telling the world about") is forbidden.

:In addition, as Qcne says, writing a new article is a challenging task, even for an editor who does not have a [[WP:conflict of interest|conflict of interest]], and I would advise anybody against trying it before they have spent a few months editing existing articles and learning how Wikipedia works. :Although the article [[Eugene Gardner]] is about somebody who seems noteworthy, it's very feeble. At first glance it has just two sources. But one of these is a mere list entry for "Milton Eugene Gardner", so effectively the article has just a single source. This sole source is titled "Milton E. Gardner" and repeatedly refers to the man as "Milton". Very possibly "Eugene Gardner" is the best title for the article, but if so the article provides no evidence for this. :::Click on the edit button at the top of the page. Scroll down to the very bottom where you will see a list of categories of the form

:::<nowiki>[[Category: category name]]</nowiki>

:::Delete the categories whose categorization is not sourced in the references of the article or that are directly contradicted by the references in the article. In the edit summary, give a short description of why you made the change and be sure to mention that you believe the article has not given a source for the claimed categorization given by the categories you are removing. Eg: "removed category x, no source for the claim that article y is in category x." If you check back later and find that someone reverted your changes, go to the talk page of the article and give a longer explanation of your view. Be sure to inform the person that reverted it by using the formula <nowiki>@[[User:UserWhoRevertedYou|UserWhoRevertedYou]]</nowiki> eg. <nowiki>@[[User:Whitewolfdog1|Whitewolfdog1]]</nowiki> which will look like @[[User:Whitewolfdog1|Whitewolfdog1]]. == Is there a place for Israel-Palestine conflict help? ==

Therefore, how are these situations best handled? Is there a MOS?

I've recently seen a new article and some edits on Israel-Palestine related issues that I'd view as extremely contentious. I really don't want to start editing heavily in that space - if I start reverting or requesting deletion, I know I'll be down a rabbit hole for days (I don't think I'm allowed to either, I don't know what the conditions are). Address on Wikipedia article[edit]

Based on the OP's previous post, this relates to the Fashion Retail Academy article. TSventon (talk) 11:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
EFIEDUCATION address and geo coordinates have to be changed separately. You can look up an online address-to-geo coord converter, put in the new address, and put the correct coordinates into Fashion Retail Academy's Wikidata entry. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:15, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind. Someone already updated the Wikidata entry. The article is still confused though - interestingly enough, the map is centered on the wrong location but has the marker in the correct spot. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:23, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sungodtemple: The centering of the map was based on the coordinates in Wikidata, which were for the previous location. I've changed them, and the map is now properly centered. Deor (talk) 15:56, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EFIEDUCATION:@Sungodtemple: OK, I was confused, since the Fashion Retail Academy article itself still had the coordinates of the former location. I've emended them and undone my Wikidata change, so now the map is showing the correct location (though still uncentered, since it is trying to include both the old location and the new one). Perhaps the centering issue is a caching problem that will be cleared up in time. Deor (talk) 16:39, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I asked at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Politics_of_the_United_Kingdom#Party_colour_in_table:_Help! an hour ago but no-one seems to be picking up on it, and the article looks a bit of a mess (though I've still got {{in use}} on it, as an excuse). It would have to be someone who met the notability guideline. It is also important to avoid conflict of interest situations.--♦IanMacM (talk to me) 16:36, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, TrinbagoianNetwork. Many people who try the challenging task of creating a new article without spending a considerable time learning how Wikipedia works and how to interact with other editors, have a frustrating and miserable experience. I always advise new editors to not even think about creating a new article until they have spent at least a few weeks making improvements to existing articles, and learning about such core concepts as verifiability, reliable sources, neutral point of view, and notability.
Once they have an understanding of those ideas, then is the time to read your first article carefully, and start looking for the reliable independent sources| without which an article is impossible. If they can find these, then they can start writing a summary of what those sources say - not a summary of what they themselves know about the subject. Is it really a Featured List?[edit]

A brand new article, Ranveer Singh Filmography, has a star at the top to proclaim that it is a Featured List. I would like to verify if this is true - is there somewhere to check whether a particular article is actually a Featured List? I looked at Wikipedia:Featured lists but it does not appear to have any search capability like this. Gronk Oz (talk) 16:03, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is not listed at WP:FL so I have removed the Featured list template. Also a FL would normally have an Article history with a link to the FL nomination discussion on its talk page. TSventon (talk) 16:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: Thanks for that. For the dummies, where were you able to check this on WP:FL? I looked all over there, but could not see where I could verify this... --Gronk Oz (talk) 16:27, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What is your question? You resubmitted Draft:Rashtriya Jankranti Morcha six days ago, and you have continued to make improvements to it. It does not look to me as if you have enough sources that meet the triple criteria in 42 to establish notability, as many of them seem to be mere listings, or about their performance in a particular election. But I may be wrong. ColinFine (talk) 22:33, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Downtown Community School[edit]

Is it possible to add several other prominent alumni to the entry on Downtown Community School? If so, how does one go about doing that? 2601:40F:4400:C220:1DFD:6ED7:2789:D0ED (talk) 21:03, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The article Downtown Community School is in poor condition, probably because it closed down 53 years ago, and few people care about it now. As for alumni, Richard Kostelanetz is the first one mentioned, but no reference to a reliable source is given, and his own biography article does not mention that he attended the school. Bio of a living person[edit]

Hi! I would like to create an article about a public person, a politician. He/she is charged with attempted murder, it is in the indictment, plus I have some 17 sources that claim the same. He/she was in prison for that, but released because got elected and has immunity now. Is it against the BLP policy of the Wikipedia to write it down the article that he/she is charged with attempted murder? Addmorefueltothefire (talk) 10:45, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at WP:SUSPECT (presumption of innocence) and WP:NPOL (notability) to help you decide whether this article should be created. ClaudineChionh (talkcontribs) 10:52, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Addmorefueltothefire, and welcome to the Teahouse, and to Wikipedia.
I would very strongly advise against doing this, for several reasons.
First, creating a new article, even on an uncontroversial topic, is much more challenging than most new editors imagine, and where people try to do so without first spending some weeks or months practising editing Wikipedia and learning how Wikipedia works, they usually have a frustrating and disappointing time, and often do not succeed in creating an article at all. With a possibly controversial topic, this can be even worse.
Secondly, Claudine has drawn your attention to the special concerns for writing about people accused of crimes.
Thirdly, your language above, together with your chosen account name, make me think that you have strong opinions about this person's guilt, one way or another. Please be aware that advocacy of any kind is not permitted on Wikipedia, and coming in with that intention would make the task harder still. HaMerotz LaMillion (and all of its' seasons)[edit]

The articles about the TV show HaMerotz LaMillion, the Israeli version of The Amazing Race (General article, season 1, season 2, season 3, season 4, season 5, season 6, season 7, season 8, and the ongoing season 9) all don't have sources and are too much database-like (Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a database). The creator of this database that I will on purpose not tag (Xoruz) has been working on this for years, and has not been caught doing this yet. It includes episode-specific summaries, every and every spot the participants visited, and the worst part - it has almost no sources. Even the original, Hebrew article isn't this detailed.

In addition to that, it contains spoilers for future legs of the race (in the current season).

Do we ask them to condense the article dramatically, or delete them since there is no way to get sources? In my opinion, deleting the articles will extremely depress the creator, since this is obviously an obsessive personal project. And of course there is also a possibility to leave this as it is, though that would go against the rules of Wikipedia, unless the rules are different for TV shows and series.

    CRplayz7 (talk) 11:41, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am active on the Hebrew Wikipedia, and less on the English one, so if it looks weird that I don't have a user or talk page - that's why :) CRplayz7 (talk) 11:42, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CRplayz7: I'm not going to evaluate the articles but MOS:PLOTSOURCE says: "The plot summary for a work, on a page about that work, does not need to be sourced with in-line citations, as it is generally assumed that the work itself is the primary source for the plot summary." PrimeHunter (talk) 11:49, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you for your response!
I'll leave the sources outside. The spoilers regarding the future legs of the race in season 9 are not of the work YET - and should be deleted, in my opinion.
In addition, the article is way too long and unnecessary. Therefore, I suggest placing the condense article template in the top of the page. Since I'm not a regular user on this Wikipedia, and don't know the template names, I wanted to know what's the procedure for placing them and if someone would be so kind to do so.
    Thank you! CRplayz7 (talk) 14:10, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @PrimeHunter CRplayz7 (talk) 14:10, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, MOS:TVPLOT allows episode summaries of 200 words, and each individual episode summary for HaMerotz LaMillion 9 is compliant. Second, you removed two outside sources that listed future legs. Spoilers that are properly cited are allowed under Wikipedia:Spoiler. Also, there are 34 sources for season 9. What do you mean no sources? Xoruz (talk) 19:56, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Prime Hunter has brought the sources not being needed to my attention.
Regarding the spoilers - someone who wants to check out what happened in the previous episodes doesn't have to see the future legs - it ruins the experience and doesn't add anything to the article. It's just annoying. CRplayz7 (talk) 05:07, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In this case, the fault is with a video tutorial on the following 'Help' page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Sandbox_tutorial) with the video failing to play. I've checked the page for the video file at Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tutorial_on_starting_a_sandbox_article_on_Wikipedia.ogv) & attempting to play the video there produces the following error message "No compatible source was found for this media.". how to change a title for an article?[edit]

I have a task to edit and correct an article for a governmental event, and I was able to edit everything but could not change its title. So what can the problem be? Janaalrifaey (talk) 22:52, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Janaalrifaey. This is about the World Government Summit. If you have been "tasked" with editing this article, then please make the mandatory Paid contributions disclosure with your next edit. You cannot change the title because you are not WP:AUTOCONFIRMED, which requires an account four full days old and 10 edits. WP:COMMONNAME is the relevant guideline. For a "governmental event", we do not use the official government name, but rather the name used by most of the reliable sources discussing the event. {{Pittsburgh Penguins roster}} has a reference to the roster on the official NHL site [2]. Tristan Jarry is there but not Jack St. Ivany so I commented him out.[3] He is on the roster of the affiliated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as a prospect for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He might make the main team later so I didn't remove him completely. The displayed players on the template now match the NHL roster. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:12, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Although the article Eugene Gardner is about somebody who seems noteworthy, it's very feeble. If the current title is indeed the best choice, put him under "E". If, as I suspect, it is not, then first move the article accordingly and then put him under "M". -- Hoary (talk) 22:21, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request Category Removal For A Wikipedia Article[edit]

The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Wikipedia article has two incorrect categories listed on the page that need to be removed:

    2) Unrecognized Tribes in the United States.

Are there any special instructions for deleting categories? Whitewolfdog1 (talk) 02:28, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Click on the edit button at the top of the page. Scroll down to the very bottom where you will see a list of categories of the form
    [[Category: category name]]
Delete the categories whose categorization is not sourced in the references of the article or that are directly contradicted by the references in the article. Be sure to inform the person that reverted it by using the formula @[[User:UserWhoRevertedYou|UserWhoRevertedYou]] eg. @[[User:Whitewolfdog1|Whitewolfdog1]] which will look like @Whitewolfdog1. If nobody responds to your point after one day then you can change it back to what you believe is appropriate. Most likely this will not be necessary but it may be useful here or in future edits you make. J2UDY7r00CRjH (talk) 03:58, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Convention for romanization of author names from foreign language sources?[edit]

I can see that we have {{citation}} parameters for the translations of titles, chapters and quotations of non-english for instance:

    |title=Tōkyō tawā |script-title=ja:東京タワー |trans-title=Tokyo Tower

However I cannot see the equivalent parameter for author names. e.g:

    |script-last1=ko:홍 |trans-last1=Hong |script-first1=ko:이섭 |trans-first1=Yi-Seop

Therefore, how are these situations best handled? Is there a MOS?

Example approaches I can think of:

Ideally, I think we should provide both to broaden SEO in both languages... but there doesn't seem to be a "clean" way of doing this? Or is there? In the absence of being able to do both via different parameters, is there any community consensus on how to best approach this? Any advice appreciated. Can't see a parameter for that either. I took a brief look at Korea-related FA's and most of the Korean authors only had their names' romanizations listed. WP:MOSKOREA seems to imply romanized spellings are preferred in most places. Per WP:CITEVAR though, you should use whatever style the rest of the article uses. Company profile[edit]

How can I add my company profile on this website 197.156.107.12 (talk) 08:10, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You cannot. Wikipedia does not host company profiles. Your company's website is the right place for its profile. -- Hoary (talk) 08:58, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS Whether you're an employee, the boss, or an intern, please read Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia. -- Hoary (talk) 10:47, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
