Defending champion Boris Becker defeated Ivan Lendl in the final, 6–4, 6–3, 7–5 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1986 Wimbledon Championships.^[1] It was Lendl's first runner-up finish at Wimbledon, preventing him from completing the career Grand Slam; he was also attempting to complete the Channel Slam.
