    Rankings from AP poll

The 2023–24 Penn State Nittany Lions basketball team represented Penn State University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led first-year head coach Mike Rhoades, and played their home games at Bryce Jordan Center located in University Park, Pennsylvania as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 16–17, 9–11 in Big Ten play to finish in a three-way tie for 10th place. As the No. 11 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they defeated Michigan in the first round before losing to Indiana in the second round.

    Previous season[edit]

The Nittany Lions finished the season 23–14, 10–10 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for ninth place. They defeated Illinois, Northwestern, and Indiana in the Big Ten tournament to advance to the semifinals before losing to Purdue. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011 as the No. 10 seed in the Midwest region. They defeated Texas A&M in the first round of the tournament, marking their first tournament win since 2001, before losing to Texas in the second round.

On March 22, 2023, head coach Micah Shrewsberry left the school to take the head coaching job at Notre Dame.[1] On March 29, the school named VCU head coach Mike Rhoades the team's new head coach.[2]
