The 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship is the upcoming college football bowl game scheduled to be played on January 20, 2025, at Mercedes-Benz StadiuminAtlanta, Georgia. The eleventh College Football Playoff National Championship will determine the national champion of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for the 2024 season. It will be the final game of the 2024–25 College Football Playoff (CFP), the first CFP National Championship under the 12-team format, and, aside from any all-star games afterward, the culminating game of the 2024–25 bowl season. It will be televised nationally by ESPN.

Host selection

On January 7, 2022, the NCAA originally awarded the rights to host the 2025 championship to Allegiant StadiuminParadise, Nevada. However, due to a conflict with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which cannot be moved to a later date, it was announced on May 5, that Mercedes-Benz StadiuminAtlanta would replace Allegiant Stadium as the venue for the 2025 championship.^[1]^[2]

Venue

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a 71,000-seat venue in Atlanta, Georgia, which opened in August 2017. The retractable roof stadium is the regular host of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL), the Peach Bowl, the Celebration Bowl,^[3] the SEC Championship Game, and the annual Aflac Kickoff Game (previously known as the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game).^[4] Additionally, it hosted the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship, where the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs, 26–23 in overtime, and Super Bowl LIII in 2019, and it was selected to host multiple matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The game will be the eleventh in College Football Playoff history, and will be the first national championship game under the expanded College Football Playoff, which features 12 teams instead of 4.^[5]

The game is scheduled to be the eleventh consecutive College Football Playoff National Championship to be televised on ESPN.
